rfhoma,

Thanks for the kind words. It was a fantastic. One of my parents said it best. There are a lot of girls that will be playing College ball and will not get the same opportunity to play in front of two to Three thousand plus people.

The support from the home town people was un real. Orville is s fun as any World Series. With the Festival and the fire works show, it made it even better. Announcing the girls name before the championship game and playing the National Anthem was spectacular. They also announced the girls names before every at bat.

The Orville fire fighters worked hard. They dragged and lined the field before each game.

It was especially fun going up against power house teams like the Ashland BLaze, Holly Hills, TNT Xplosion from W. Virginia, And the Talmadge Wildcats.
The championship game was an un believable game against the Valley Extreme (Kiser). There was one tie and several lead changes. Going into the 7th inning, we were down by three when Ca'Tisa Alexander (Northmont) hit a two run home run to cut it down to 9-8. I was so happy for her to do that in such a big game and in front of that many people.

I want to thank everyone for there support. Scott Herman Diamond Dominators 14U

This was one of the most enjoyable tournaments that my dd has been involved with. Great job by the Orville firefighters and the entire community of Orville. Very good competition and the championship game was a nailbiter with several lead changes and the outcome not determined until the last out. Valley Extreme Kiser edged a very good Diamond Dominators team. Lots of character and class for both teams and both sides never quit when things went against them. Congratulations to both teams

:) !! ?Hats off to the Orville Firefighters. ?They did an amazing job and lets not forget they worked like crazy to even get this off the ground after all the rain. ?This was our second year there and both were a great experience! ?Our kids love coming here.

:) !! ?Have to drop a plug for the Nordonia girls too. ?They really had a tough pool and a really tough bracket! ?These kids are over looked a lot because they don't come out of one of the 'powerhouse' clubs, but they went into this tournament in a pool with TNT, Diamond Dominators, AND Holli Hills.. all mentioned above as powerhouses. ?They came out of pool play 3-0 with two shut outs and one run rule game! ?Somehow they pulled Shockwave in round one and toughed out a win there too. ?That team was great as well. ?

It never got easier after that as they had to play Holli Hills again in round two. ?I don't know how you come out the number one seed and never get a breath, but that's how it works sometimes! ?We knew Holli HIlls would be upset we run ruled them and be ready play. ?We picked a bad time to give up 5 unearned runs in a game. ?We hadn't done that all season!

We didn't see a bad team all weekend and all the kids from all area's were great. ?Umpires were great, people were nice, crowds were amazing and the venue is the most comfortable in tournament play! ?The final two were deserving of the championship game. ?Congratulations to both! Again, it was a great experience.

Thanks for letting me recognize our Lady Knights a little. Hope you don't mind. ?We are very proud of the season they are having! I know you are all proud of your girls too! Great job DD... great job VE!!!!

Norddad,

Forgive me for not recognizing the Nordonia team in my previos post. ? Your daughters team was seriously a top power house team. You beat us 4-0 in pool play. I was impressed with your hitting, defense and over all team speed. I should have regognized you with those other teams. You are right, we had a really hard pool. Thank you for your kind words.

No harm Scott! Believe me, this tournament was LOADED. I still can't believe the pool we had. I just wanted the kids to get a little ink... it's tough being a small team pulling from one small area but this group works very hard. I can't think of a team we weren't impressed with this weekend. Let me say, your team was very classy in our game. I wish I could say that for 'all' the power house teams. We were pullin' for you and Valley Extreme after we got booted!

Hey, anyone know what Shockwave did in pool play? You kind of expect your first game to be a little easier.. especially when you come out of the pool we did. The Shockwave team was ROCK solid. I wondered how in the world we pulled them?

norddad-Thank you for the kind words. Our teams played an excellent game and your L.F really made some tough plays. Your team did all the little and big things needed to win, well-played. We were a little inconsistent this weekend, our bats never warmed up. We lost a pool game which we were winning because of drop time, 2 outs and 0-2 count on batter when time expired. Our team came out a little slow and never truly played to their potential all weekend. We will work on our hitting and prepare for nationals and hopefully make Ohio proud. Orrville did a wonderful job and wish they would expand to all age groups. Congrats to V.E and Dominators on reaching the finals and playing an exciting game.

This tournament was a blast. Too bad there's only a 14U. Would love to go back!

OP- This is the Orville Fire in the Sky tournament. The best way to get info for it is to go to the City of Orville website at http://www.orrville.com/. It is all wrapped around a carnival and fireworks. It truly is a great tournament and it only allows 14U. We played 2 years and had fun.

Best kept secret in Ohio softball. Great town with great folks. Fun festival. Perfect setting with the fields, park, swimming pool, etc. Almost every ump was flawless. The Orville Fire Department volunteer firefighters prepared the fields as good as any major league baseball crew - fresh drag, fresh lines, watering down the dust, repacking pitchers mound and home plate boxes before every game - unbelieveable! Their EMTs and Paramedics were on scene in 20 seconds for field injuries, too.

Competition was outstanding. All the teams mentioned above, plus a few others not mentioned were all great, showed great sportsmanship, and were fun to play against. Congrats to all, especially to Valley Extreme for winning it all and Diamond Dominators for making such a good show of it in the championship game.

For any 14U teams next year, this should be the first tournament on your list. What a blast.

I didn't get to see it, but I heard it was VE - 3, HH -1. I assume you're asking about the quarterfinal game.

The Orrville Firefighters Association would like to thank all the teams that participated in our 5th annual "Fire in the Sky" 14U tournament this past weekend. It was a great turn out with 18 teams playing in pool play (4 pools) and then eliminations on Saturday. A fantastic Championship game that had a little bit of everything! All the girls from all the teams played great. The weather finally cooperated and we witnessed some very good games. We are going to look into expanding the field to include 16U as well as the 14U Girls Classification. If anybody has any suggestions we would like to hear from you, we have never had any luck attracting 16U teams.

Next years tentative dates are July 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2009

Thanks again! We enjoy putting on this tournament. We are still learning so bare with us.

The Lady Nights would come. Just make sure you have the fields to do it right in case of rain. This year it rained Thursday and you gus did a great job getting ready for Friday. We played the Lady Bear the week before and rain washed it out on Sunday and a lot of people got upset.

I agree this is a great tourney for the 14's, and would play if there were 16's. ?But bigger is not always better, and agree with the previous post about not going bigger than you can handle. ?To many TD's do this on a regular basis.
