For those that are playing now.
We started today! :yahoo:WHAT A BLAST! We are going to have some fun this year I think. Played 3 games, 39 runs scored, 1 run allowed. Won all 3 games.
Looking forward to more competition in the up coming games.

Anyone else started yet?

After a four-week layoff, I finally got back on the field again. Worked two straight games behind the plate for a recreational league in Westerville. During the thick of the summer tournament season, doing four games in a day was a piece of cake. After being off the field so long, two games and my legs are feeling it the next day!

But they were long games. These were league games that had a two-hour "no new inning" time limit and a two-hour thirty minute cut off point. The first game, 16U, was a blow out that ended just five minutes shy of the 150 minute max! That's like doing two 75 minute tournament games right there.

The next game, 12U, was actually at another park about five minutes away. I jumped right in my car, without even taking of my gear, got to the other park, jumped out and hauled it to the field, getting there with less than five minutes to spare before game time. It was a closer game that was more evenly matched. It went two hours.

The weather was perfect- one of the nicest days for softball this whole wet, hot summer. Next week, it gets more fun- another league double header on Saturday, then three games in the Grand Slam fall league on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to the Grand Slam league (most of you central-Ohio folks are probably familiar with that one). It is made up of mostly travel ball teams and a much higher level of competition.

That will be my routine until the middle of October. Then, we can get ready for indoor ball!

39 - 1 thru three games does not sound like much fun. Are you playing down an age group or what.?

At this rate if you play 15 Fall League games you will tally 195 runs for and 5 runs against. Not much of a challenge. However I guess the base running skills are getting some good work.

Wow, 39-1, sounds like a lot of "fun". Our games started last weekend (8/23/08). We lost our first game 2-0 in a nice pitcher's dual, then won 10-9 in a game where we were up 8-2 and then got a bit lazy in the field. Oh well, a good leason learned.

BretMan, sounds like you are an umpire or a catcher?
We dont look forward to indoor ball! But hey, it keeps the girls active & playing!

This is Fall ball, not Tournament games. We don't choose who we play anyways. Some of the teams are just freshmen school teams, high school teams, some are travel ball teams.
FYI our team last year won only 1 game the entire fall ball season. :( So yes, exciting to start off winning for a change.
But what is exciting is to just see the new team take the field, period.
We only had 2 practices together with 6 new players. we have lots of work ahead of us. The Fall ball is just that, used to work on being competitive in 2009.
If you read my entire message you will also see "Looking forward to more competition in the up coming games." ;)

We have only just begun...

These are the types of games we hope to see. More closely matched for talent! It isnt fun for either team to crush or be crushed. We have been on both sides of that coin.
Our girls are still a little rusty. None seem to be real lazy yet! Glad to see you won one. that is good for the players spirits. Last year was very hard to make it through the fall ball season & keep spirits up. We were a very young, new 14U team that faced allot of senior 14U teams. (ouch)

We had a bye our first game. We were winning our second game 13-3 so we let a new girl pitch (she told us she was a pitcher). We let her go until the score was 13-12, then we put the original starter back in. We ended up winning the game 15-12 or something like that. Even though we're a 12u team for 2009 we are playing 14u. It looks like most teams we will play this fall are actually teams that will be first year 14u teams in 2009.

We started out with 1 win and 1 loss against a team that only lost a handful of games last year, Valley Extreme White. Very solid group of girls. We scored 10 runs against some really good pitching and gave up 9 runs. Good competition that will make our team stronger.

Valley Extreme White are going to be tough even at 14U (Moved up from 12U last season). Very talented, seasoned group of girls! I know this because my DD played with them her first year of Travel ball. ;)

Does seem the pitching is getting better this year doesnt it, and the defensive players also. The freshman team we faced had two travel pitchers on their team.

Fall ball starts this weekend for us. We will be in 14u in Medina on Saturdays and 12u ball in Tecumseh Michigan on Sundays.

Will be nice to get back on the diamonds again after having a month off.

We got closed out of both fall ball leagues we tried to get in. Too many teams, not enough fields around here I guess. We will be looking for some scrimmages and doing a lot of practices I guess. Not much fun, but oh well.

Thanx Explosion, you guys also had some great pitching. That's what we need to see. Has some nice hits, and kept out defense awake. 2 very enjoyable games. Good luck to you guys and have a great year. I'm sure we'll meet again.
