After a four-week layoff, I finally got back on the field again. Worked two straight games behind the plate for a recreational league in Westerville. During the thick of the summer tournament season, doing four games in a day was a piece of cake. After being off the field so long, two games and my legs are feeling it the next day!
But they were long games. These were league games that had a two-hour "no new inning" time limit and a two-hour thirty minute cut off point. The first game, 16U, was a blow out that ended just five minutes shy of the 150 minute max! That's like doing two 75 minute tournament games right there.
The next game, 12U, was actually at another park about five minutes away. I jumped right in my car, without even taking of my gear, got to the other park, jumped out and hauled it to the field, getting there with less than five minutes to spare before game time. It was a closer game that was more evenly matched. It went two hours.
The weather was perfect- one of the nicest days for softball this whole wet, hot summer. Next week, it gets more fun- another league double header on Saturday, then three games in the Grand Slam fall league on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to the Grand Slam league (most of you central-Ohio folks are probably familiar with that one). It is made up of mostly travel ball teams and a much higher level of competition.
That will be my routine until the middle of October. Then, we can get ready for indoor ball!
