Central Ohio USSSA Fall Classic:

Sept 27-28 at Berliner Park - Columbus, OH.
12-U, 14-U, 16-U & 18-U age brackets.

2009 World Series Qualifying Event will be open to the first 8 teams in each age group.

Entry Fee is $350 which includes 2009 USSSA sanction. Write on the flyer you saw it here on OFC and take a $25 discount until Sept 5.

Format will be 4 G.G. with 2 games in a seeding bracket and then double-elimination. A Berths will distributed on a 1:4 ratio of teams entered.

Just curious why you are not having 18s? Also, do you know where the World Series are for 2009?

I only have 6 fields guaranteed by the Parks and Rec dept. If they can promise me 2 more fields, then I can add 18-U. If I do, I will put them on 43' feet pitching distances.

I meet with Denny Rose next week and will see if the USSSA has determined where the 2009 Worlds are going to be held. They may wait until there convention like the NSA does and that is in November.

Hi Marie,

I am going to limit the number of teams in each group to 8 so we can add 18-U to the bracket. USSSA does wait until there convention to announce the fast-pitch locations for the following year. I also have some clarification on some of the potential roster issues. E-mail me at mcraig@centralohiousssa.com and I will send you that clarification worksheet.

****8/18/08 Update****

Several team inquiries thru e-mail.

Classics 14 and 16-U have inquired. Buckeye Heat 18-U and Jim Clark's girl's have inquired. Marion Diamonds 14's (16's?), Central Ohio Ice 14's, Lasy Lasers 14's (Glenn's team) have inquired.

I realize that try outs are dominating the month of August. With this in mind, I can hold spots with a $100 deposit so teams do not get shut out. With this being said, I would need the payment in full by 9/10/08. This way if we need to make decisions regarding age groups, there is plenty of time to notify folks.

So far, only 12-U is Stingray's-Douglass. Brian has indicated they will play 14-u if the 12-u is a no go. Ohio Classics 16-U team would prefer to play in the 18-U bracket if that one gets off the ground also. I was asked what number of teams would we need to make sure this comes off. That number would be 6 in each group. This way, we can play a 2 game pool (3 teams each) and seed the teams into a double-elim bracket.

I have picked up no teams this week nor e-mails from prospective teams. I am going to do an e-mailer tonight to try to generate some interest. I know it is not the epic OSU game with Troy that is scaring off teams.

Can I get some feedback on this? Is this too early of a date? With tryouts just a few weeks ago and all of the early fall sports, maybe I should look at a later date in say the second week of October for next year?

Hey Mike,

It was just too early for us. First weekend in October or the 3rd weekend would have worked (I say third weekend because the 2nd weekend is Univ of Akron's team camp and the Wolfpack's Best of the Best). Otherwise, we would have been there. Hope this helps!

Due to the lack of teams entered, we are going to have to cancel the tournament. Teams have been notified via e-mail and checks have not been cashed.

I do apologize for the lack of teams. Hopefully interested teams can still find a tournament to participate in.
