And no I dont' have a daughter going but I know a few girls from western pa here going and I would like to give them a little bit of a head's up on what to expect.

Do everything Kirt recommends as far as behavioral, Do bring at least 20-40 profiles if Junior or Senior. If JR/SR about 20 videos, an upright plastic file holder from Office Max. Just place videos in the upright holder, it will hold about 7 slim disc holders and keep repleneshing it as needed.

Most of all tell them be themselves, have fun and remember allot of eyes are upon them at the fields, parking lot hotel and restaurants..... Have Mom's and Dad's bring binoculars as they will need them along with a fold chair.

Have you made your team book yet? You will want to take those to all of your team tournaments and have available for coaches there.

If you IM me your address, I'll send you a copy of our team book.

Definitely follow what Kirt emails you. It is a lot of info but extremely helpful and truthful.

DD played in the North and South showcases and what an experience. Tell your girls not to be uptight or nervous and just play ball like they know how to play. I know easier said than done!

Definitely get one of those plastic standup magazine holders. We got ours at Staples. It will hold profiles plus your DVD's. It also won't get mixed in with other profiles laying on the table. The QD staff sets up the profiles and does a good job of making sure all profiles are showing and not being covered up. Plus only college coaches are permitted to view profiles during that time. Unlike the Kent State showcase where they are open to anyones viewing and it is up to the player/parent to place the profiles. Can also use the holder when attending various travel ball showcase tourneys.

I would take about 30 profiles. Just remember to collect them after the showcase so you can reuse them.

Most importantly email coaches to remind them your back tag #, field and times!

We went to both QDSN and TPS TOP96 this past year. TPS TOP96 was by FAR the better deal in my opinion. Two days, 50-55 girls and 18-20 coaches. There are multiple TPS TOP96 locations with different coaches from all divisions and you can attend more than one if you want to pay the money.

PurpleJack: my DD was invited to a TPS tourney in Virginia by a D-II school which was the first I've heard of those showcases. But she did not attend because was not sure if that school was where she wanted to go and was already attending the QDS with her money already paid. It was quite expensive but have heard they are top notch.

Are they by invite only? or is there an application you fill out? Just curious since this college invited my DD.

DD was given what the e mail called an open invite to the Tops from a coach from Indy, we had never heard of it and was a little leary, diddnt know if it was on the up and up or they got her name from a data base, seemed a bit pricey, $325.00 if memory serves me correctly. They held one in Dayton and the second in Georgetown Ky, I spoke to the man in charge because i had the same question, and he said they do accept walk ons but they prefer to work with the invites that the coaches wanted, this post is the first time i have ever seen anyone that has attended, after going to the QDSN twice, the price is about the same once you figure the cost for the Kent State camp that goes along with the QDSN, so its somethnig to think about

I don't believe the coaches ask for players to be there at the "TOPS". They get the girls emails and do an email blitz hoping to catch some. A marketing machine... They say coaches "could" be there as well, not that they will be there on their marketing stuff. Way too many clinics by them to have that many coaches travelling with them. They had to have at least 15 of the camps.

I realy couldent tell you how it works, we just recieved the e mail that said coach such and such has offerd you an open invitation, but like I said, i was leary it was a data base kind of deal.

Re: the TOPS thing ... At least some invitations are by college coach recommendation, but I don't know that means that particular coach is really interested in the player for his/her school. A couple recommendations my daughter got were by coaches she had been contacted by, some she had contacted (and never heard back from, but they definitely put her on their camp mailing list :)), others I think observed her at a showcase/clinic.

I do think they build a big list of "acceptable" players and then start the mailing blitz - I think if you're invited to one, you can go to any, but there are multiple individual invitations, too.

Also, it seems the location for the event can be a high-profile D1 school, but I never noticed anyone saying that school's coach would be there - or even valued the idea at all.

As with everything, good can come of it, but for the price, it seemed to me to be over-hyped and mostly a money maker for whatever the organization is. And, until this thread, I had never seen any feedback from any who had players attend.

I agree until this post I have never heard talk about the TPS that is why we were quite leary on attending. Unlike the QDS where it is the "showcase to attend". In the TPS you don't even know what coaches are attending so you cannot write to them. And one coach interested in DD to attend TPS is not going to make us spend large amounts of $$$ withut any guarantee.

I just don't think it is "as popular" as the QDS.

Queen of Diamonds. The player we have going said she did a table top proflile. Is this the one that will be on the table? or should she make up her own with a dvd to put out there. Thanks

Sidney, are you really asking if the table top profile is the one that goes on (top of) the table? :)

Yes, and though she can take DVDs, but unless something changed this year, the girls are asked to provide only profiles for those tables. The tables are extremely crowded. I think it's unfair for girls to add more "stuff" which ends up covering up other girls' profiles. Just my opinion. Maybe they have bigger tables this year.

I apologize for the dumb question, I havent' spoke with Cassie on what all she included on the table top profile, and my question is if she should bring something different to put out that may cover more things. lol. I was thinking of putting her dvd's out with the profiles kinda like a dvd cover in them. Think that would work?

Some people mentioned a file type folder to put out, would a case that stacks dvd's/cd's up, work also, that way it doesn't get buried.

SidneyCrosby87 - First, there are no dumb questions.... Let me touch on several things... For the Saturday KSU Clinic portion of the weekend the player profiles are randomly sat on a few tables against the field house wall. Anyone can look and or take them. So although coach Linder provides a place to put them they're really not organized or controlled. Once Kirt and his staff take over at 5:00pm Saturday we move them to a roped off area that is designated for college coaches only - thus much more control. With regards to the profiles themselves!! Over the years I've seen profiles that ranged from a half a page with very little info to a small book containing WAY too much info. A couple of years ago Kirt polled as many college coaches as he could and asked them what they wanted on these profiles. The result is what he called the "Table Top Profile". Since then we've been told by college coaches they love them. One of the important pieces of info is the grad year - that's because when we move them to this roped off area they're separated by grad year - which is another thing the college coaches love. Now a couple of suggestions.
1) Bring only the table top profile - no need to bring a different style.
2) Bring about 30-40 copies - Don't set them all out at once, rather go over to the tables once in a while to make sure their are some left.
3) DVD's can be expensive to make - you have 2 choices 1) Bring a bunch of them or 2) Bring a few and put a highlighted note some place on the profile that says "Skills DVD available upon request" If a college coach is interested believe me they'll e-mail after the weekend and request one. Completely up to you!!
4) It is a good idea if you buy on of those clear stands - not sure what they're called but I've seen them at an office supply stores.

Hope this helps!

Just like everything else, it gets to be a competition, with parents jockeying their daughters' profiles for optimum viewing - everyone else be darned. I personally feel the stands do the same thing - and they are going to be placed right on top of someone else's stack of profiles, and block other ones behind them.

I would do what Kirt asks - as far as I know, he asks for the profiles and, as has been said, the format is a direct result of polling the coaches - and only what he asks.

When DD was in the QDS we bought one of those plastic magazine stands for her profiles. The profiles were in plastic sheet protectors (helps to keep them neat for the coaches) and we put her DVD's in the real thin plastic DVD holders which fit nicely in the sheet protectors where her profile was. This way everything was placed right in the magazine stand and profile & video are kept together.

We always placed her stand in the back so as not to cover other profiles and it was nice because it stood up and was always visible so no need to cover anyones profile (which is just rude by the way).

And Kirt's crew does a nice job of making sure no ones profile is covered.
