The number one biggest flaw in girls mechanics, I believe, is hitting with the arms to much.

Not staying connected to the lower half.

Even when they get closer to connection, the arms will start to go, or upper body starts to go a tad before the heal plants.

I would like to hear from other coach's on the most common problem with girls mechanics that they run across. And how they fix it.

Thanks

I could list a ton , but it all depends on age and if they work with a hitting coach. I have a 16U hitter that has a gate swing, so you can still run into some ugly swings even at that level. I observed a camp last weekend and it was fun just standing back watching some of the ugly swings and talking to parents.
1. I will list the worst thing I saw above was Stance. Weight back on the heels and the hands held way above the shoulders with the bat straight up. Wait till they see a riseball.
2. Stepping with a stiff front leg at toe touch.
3. Casting hands at the ball. Bad first move.
4. Hips turning before heel plant, or the back arm coming down into the slot.
5. Level swings
Almost all are easy to fix, just the kids have no idea what they are doing wrong.

Better way to put it Elbow, then the hands, then the bat each below the other. Swing is a semi circular path, so the bat stays longer in the big zone.

Sb.

Besides My first post, I would have to agree with stance.
Being balanced, not being flatfooted.

Weight of body going over top of back leg.

Spreading the feet more usally helps most hitters that are out of balance.

Timing, Timing, Timing.

Getting to seperation (negative hand motion / toe touch) BEFORE the pitcher releases the ball.

Ham.
What do you see are the corrections for a level swing?

This is not a loaded question. Just topic for discussion.

?

Come on Hammy have you never seen an Oompa- Loompa swing?

In my opinion...If she swung and hit her knees or butt it would be swinging down relative to the position of the hands to the shoulders....if she hits her shoulders or maybe does not finish over her shoulder would you consider this level especially if her hands went out over the plate first?

Maybe this is why the Lord sent the demons over the edge of the cliff in the body of swines...just kidding!:lmao:

Explain what you mean by level. Level to the ground? If the ball is coming belt high, to me a level swing would be hands droping to belt, then the swing would keep goin around the belt. Isnt that level to you? That is level to me. Pleaze tell me waht your level is.

The bat and hands are never on the same plain , not even on a riseball. Hands must always be above the ball and above the bat. As Candera points out. You start high and inside with your hands and then adjust to the pitch. Example is his hammer drill.

I have always thought of it as level shoulders and the bat and arms and hands level to the ground all the way around.

A circular swing.

so if the ball is piched at the knees a level swing to you is bat going level around shoulders? that seems stupid to me.

Not challenging your knowledge here at all, have you ever seen a batter adjust to a true riseball. Mike and Sue may have seen a few of their hitters do it ,maybe.

On a low pitch it would be more the level shoulders. Probably dropping hands and swinging.

There would be some tilit to the bat, but basically a level swing.

Just my opinion of what I have always thought of it as.

Chip. Yes, but you must understand what Mike teaches. . That is the whole purpose of the hammer drill that Candera teaches. You do not adjust to a rise ball. You always take your hands high and inside and adjust to the pitch. Outside or low. So your hands are always in the correct and path for the rise ball. Jenny Topping did a very good demo on this . If you have your hands down , you are correct you will never adjust up to the rise ball. That is why when I'm coaching a game and see a girl swing and drop her hands I give her a steady diet of rise balls. I'm glad this topic got back on track . I thought I had logged into baseball 101.

There is a HUGE difference between the set up and adjusting, I thought we were talking about adjustments. I have a pretty good understanding about Candrea and Enquist I have seen the over two dozen times, mostly Candrea and spent some time with Slaught myself. Your point is well taken and thanks.

No problem. We both probably laugh when we hear parents tell kids to adjust to a pitch that is outside or inside by stepping out or in. We know they don't have time.
