Northern Ohio Fastpitch VS. Southern

I spoke with a D1 coach a couple weeks ago and we were discussing recruiting at the D1 level. I was told that for the most part in the state of Ohio the majority of future D1 players are in the north. Obviously thats the way this particular coach feels but is this just a myth? How and why would the higher quality players be from the north? I this just a false perception?

Also, it seems as if preferential treatment is given to northern based teams in this forum, true or false? I have my own feelings and I'm just trying to start a mature, interesting topic without any animosity.

Closer to Ann Arbor, the closer you live to Ann Arbor the closer you are to greatness. ;)

It seems to me that a lot of whats generated on here starts from the Columbus area and radiates north and south. There are probably just more travel teams in the northern part of the state to help develop the talent.

part of it could be pure population differences. Lot more big cities up north

hey uber how much greatness have you eperienced lately are u saying 1-9 or 2-9 whatever it is is greatness if so the north can have it lol.i think it is balancing out at younger ages i really have not followed alot of the older age groups and plus i know for a fact 10 to 15 girls from circleville to lancaster that have played on teams up north so just because a team is based in northern ohio does not mean their players aren't from southern ohio or even from ohio

you must be more southern. Since this is a softball site, assume when I talk about Ann Arbor and greatness its about Coach Hutch and her wolverine softball team. Got an answer for that? lol

The entire SE part of Ohio is unmined or undermined for softball talent. There are a few that are in travel ball, but a very, very small percentage compared with the northern part Ohio. Even the Cinci Metro are cannot make up for the difference.

And as Manitou Dan mentioned, the majority of Ohio's population lies north of I70.

Demographics swings all over the place. If a northern college signs a southern player - who grabs the glory? OSU football is an example. They have players fron Ga, Fla, Tx and Ohio. Who grabs the glory? OSU does. Once they sign, they are OURS. Same thing in softball.
