Valley Extreme PONY National Qualifier

The Valley Extreme Softball Organization will be sponsoring a 2009 PONY National Qualifier Tournament on 6/26, 6/27, and 6/28. The Candlelight Knolls complex was home to the 12U and 16U PONY Nationals in 2008. This complex features four fields that have tarps in case of inclement weather.

• 4 Game Minimum (weather permitting)
• Cost $350 per team
• Four field tarps
• PONY National Qualifier Tournament
• Maximum 60 teams
• Nine fields available
• Candlelight Knolls, Bazetta Park, Bazetta Elementary, & Willow Park
• Age Groups – 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, & 18U
• PONY Rules, balls, and umpires (two per game)
• $3.00 “individual” admission fee per person – infants/pre-school are free (manager & team players are free)
• Must be PONY sanctioned for 2009 and be able to show proof of accidental & liability insurance at check in
• Pool play on 6/26 & 6/27
• Single Elimination tournament on 6/28
• Team and individual trophies for 1st and 2nd place in each age group
• Application entry forms available at www.valleyextreme.com, plus your team needs to register at www.pony.org

Still waiting to hear all of the details from PONY. I think in the past it has just been winners. PONY does look at how many PONY tournaments and what your record is in granting some at large berths to teams.

Thanks Greg. I know Ohio Blast is looking into more PONY tournaments this year vs. last year. We played mostly NSA last year and it was "alot of the same" if you know what I mean.

Teams:

Here are the number of PONY berths we can award:

10U & 12U Age Groups:

4 - 8 Teams = 1 berth
9 - 12 Teams = 2 berths
13 - 18 Teams = 3 berths

14U, 16U, & 18 Age Groups:

8 - 12 Teams = 1 berth
13 - 16 Teams = 2 berths
17 - 23 Teams = 3 berths

So we certainly would like to award "2" berths per age groups so the key is to have at least "9" teams in the 10U & 12U, and "13" in the 14U, 16U, & 18U age groups.

Teams:

A question came up about "tournament host" berths? If this or any PONY tournament has the following minimum teams than the host will be awarded a berth per age group, and will not count towards the berth given out at the tournament. Those teams must compete in at least two PONY NQ tournaments for the berth to be valid.

10U - minimum of 4 teams
12U - minimum of 6 teams
14U - minimum of 8 teams
16U - minimum of 8 teams
18U - minimum of 8 teams

Also we can hand down berths to as low as the 3rd place finisher's.

So a quick example would be say our 10U age group gets 4 teams. Our Valley Extreme team would get a "host" berth, and then one of the remaining three teams would compete for the one tournament awarded berth.
