Honestly, I don't have a stake in this issue.
I responded to a post that another OFCer listed that contained what I thought as a factual error. Now, I don't know if there is an error or not.
And the fact that there may be no error IS the point. A player could have played on both teams.
If she didn't - no foul, but the post by oldtimer is inaccurate.
If she did play on both teams, then potentially there could be an OHSAA violation, but ONLY if she played for a rec team during the school season. (The Olentangy system subscribes to OHSAA rules.) And the penalty, as posted earlier, is moot, since the season is already in the past. It is perfectly acceptable to play for another team - by OHSAA RULES - once the school season is over. So if a player competed for another team after the school season - no foul. (The mass exodus of 12U and 14U travel players after the middle school season to Memorial Day tournaments is proof enough of that concept.)
In terms of competing in a rec league AND also competing on a middle school team, I don't have a stake in that issue. A few posters have said that action is against rec league rules. I don't have any knowledge of the league rules, nor does it impact me. So I really don't care.
I will take a stand and say that I am against players breaking the OHSAA rules in terms of competing for non-school teams during the school season. But I am pointing the finger at parents. These girls aren't sneaking out of the house and driving themselves to those games. And shame on the coaches who would recruit those players.
The OHSAA has some pretty crappy rules. There are inequities in terms of how students are allowed to transfer between schools (and still retain eligibility). A few parents work extremely hard to bend the system to get their daughters to play on the right team, for the right coach, in the right year. I get tired of reading the innuendos and snipes in posts on this board. And I get tired of knowing that it happens.
