You still seem to be missing the usage of the phrase "Travel snobs" you seemed offended so I just tried to explain what the orignial poster meant IMO by travel snobs. Its nothing like putting a label on all high school coaches because one is bad, because again its not labeling all travel ball players and parents lol, unless you think all travel ball players and parents act like prima donnas.

No don't think that at all.......those are your words not mine.....just think the use of that terminology does nothing to promote espiritdecorps amongst those who say they are in this for the girls!

heck sometimes I can't follow my own line of thinking.......sometimes better to agree to disagree and let it go.....I love HS ball as much as Travel Ball...just having a difficult time understanding the we/they when it comes to HS and Travel...seems like ya can't have one without the other. I coach travel and my kid plays both HS and travel gonna now have to do serious soul searching to see if she and I are snobs...lol

Literally every girl I have talked to about high school vs. travel (which is well over twenty girls) can not wait for high school ball to get over and to start playing travel again. I love watching high school but I hate the politics. I know the girls feel that way as well.

Travel Snob-Player or parent who thinks that their talents would be wasted by playing High School Softball. This statement was never intended or directed at any travel coach, most of the travel coaches I know I have the upmost respect for, especially the ones my dd has played for. The problem that I have is when I read these posts about how stupid the HS coach is and how he only plays his favorites and the teachers kid starts over mine, it just sounds like sour grapes.

I'm glad mine is in Junior High! I attend High School games and what I find amusing is the parents. There has to be 10 coach's in the stands or in lawn chairs, the politics is even more amusing. I know there is a big difference from a boys baseball game vs' a girls softball game. The upset parents because a Freshman is starting in front of their Junior. Why isn't the drama at the boys game? I look forward to HS ball when DD plays, I just hope I wont be on here discussing my feelings in regards to dd isn't getting enough playing time. As I've read in some of the posts above, if my dd is riding the pine and not getting the innings, but cant play travel due to OHSAA rules. Then it is my job to keep working with my dd to make sure she remembers the fundamentals and keep sharpening her skills to be prepared for summer! I guess we all should be thankful most HS Softball teams dont play summer league. So what I enjoy most about HS Softball is "THE 10 COACH'S IN LAWN CHAIRS", lmao.

so true...gotta hit the cages and keep sharp.........we are fortunate to have alot of talent at our HS they push each other.......we have the numbers for a strong JV and Varsity team..our school is no different than any other when it comes to disagreements over who should play Varsity and who shouldn't....everyone has their own opinion no way will everyone be 100% happy.....in our case it is mostly Jrs and Srs that start Varsity and altho I don't like it my Soph must wait another year to get her turn.....just the way it is...but as long as they are consistent what more can you say...

Not the case here. we have had none quit. but unhappy they can't even play one inning.

My problem is no playing time at all. I don't think all of the young ladies should get equal playing time. just some playing time. They get none

HS ball is not rec. I know for a fact sir, that all the young ladies were told what their roles would be, and they had a choice. All 16 on Varisty chose to be a part of a team trying to win ball games. If you want to help your HS, send some girls that are sound in the fundamentals. No politics at our school, the best play. The others are being taught the fundalmentals.......I don't know to many HS Varsity teams that carry 16 young ladies in the regular season, 11 or 12 maybe.

I myself a fair man. and believe that if someone is a member of one of my teams. no matter what, no one will sit the bench the entire season. i will make sure they get into a game, not all games, but in one way or another. This way, they feel more a part of the team. I am trying to help our High School program and others by offering the LunaChix travel ball teams to Urbana girls and the young ladies from the surrounding areas. I just Wish the High schools would see the potential the LunaChix can offer and come join us in improving the players from Urbana and the surrounding areas.

This is an Open invitation to all coaches in Urbana and the High Schools that have young ladies playing for the LunaChix. We would Love to have your help and suggestions to make the young ladies better players.

OK, I need to weigh in on this. I coach both. I hear all of the "travel snobs" continually railling about the politics of HS ball, and how their superstar did not make Varsity as a Freshman. Wah...Wah..Wah. Here is the truth in my world. At the HS level, I have never made, or been forced to make, or have been part of a discussion in which a kid's parent is a deciding factor in whether a kid gets playing time, or what team they will play on. Coaching at the HS level is a complete breath of fresh air for me. I have a group of kids that are not pre-determined. I (and the entire staff) have to make the best of who shows up at try-outs. We work hard to go from zero (in some cases) to 60 in a very short time frame. I get to COACH every day after school for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. I have committed players that I don't have worry about scheduling around little suzies dance lessons, club v-ball, vacations, or s**cer practice. I get to coach my girls for the pride of our school. The teachers that I am fortunate enough to coach with are all talented and 100% dedicated to the team, the school, and the program. I feel fortunate every day to be a part of our team.

Despite what some may think, we try to put the best 9 players on the field, no matter what. That, however, does not overshadow the focus on TEAM. Every player who has the PRIVILEDGE of getting a school uniform is part of something bigger than them. They each have a role, and no matter how big or small they are critical to the team as a whole. Every one of our girls Fresh., JV, and Varsity are all part of the team, and special to me.

Travel ball is 1000% more political, and always will be. It is fun, and it is important, but it is not the "end all, be all". I have met as many (if not more) quality coaches at the HS level than I have in travel. I have said my peace.

Not sure I see how travel ball is politcal? Not getting in the right tournaments? Fundraising an issue? Team Colors are not your style? Because all those and many more issues should have been resolved prior to committing to the team. The parents and players always have the ability to change from their current situation.
What H.S. coaches do that travel coaches would like to be able to do. The ability to practice every day for 2-3 hours. I could only imagine how good some of these girls would be getting the proper instruction.

Well Stated Bubba... We personally have been very fortunate on the travel and school side, but it does exist, you see it every weekend with many of the teams out there, just keep your ears open some weeks. Just take a Poll of how many teams some kids have played on over the years? Some can say 5 or more. I'm sure all those teams were that bad too...

Uber - You have the ability to change teams correct. Why would you stay in that situation. Also, I would assume that talent level of a "daddy ball" team not to be of the caliber I was talking about.

By the time you figure out your playing for a daddy ball coach the season might be half way done, not much time to find another team. If your even able to, so season is lost due to politics. If your going to qualify your no politics in travel ball by saying the very top travel organizations dont allow daddy ball, the same could be said about the very top ran High school programs not allowing politics to run their programs. Just saying lol.

I guess I must just be in the miniority, I love my DD's travel team and coaches, and I love her High school team and her coaches. I view them as to totally different animals, Varsity coach at a high school has to juggle different balls then a travel coach. Not saying one is harder or easier, just different.

This was a great post. Everyone needs to realize that there are good and bad with both HS and travel ball. Each high school and travel team is different. There is no blanket statement that can be made for either situation. The most important factor is perspective. Two people can view the same situation very differently from each other.

We call that glorified Daddy Ball around here Uber. LOL Unfortionately, I think its just about everywhere you go, High School and Travel. I'm sure my feeling on this are the same as most parents. I don't want my dd to get playing time b/c of who she is and I don't want her not to play b/c of who she's not!!!!

Nice post.
