Buckeye Heat 97 won the Millersport ASA Eastern National qualifier this Sunday. Finished with a 2-1 record in pool play, with the only loss being to the Classics. Came back with a strong pitching and defensive performance in the championship game to take the title against a strong, well-coached Nightmare team. Beautiful weather, well-manicured diamonds, good umpiring, and good softball. Good job to all the ladies playing this weekend. Great job Heat to come back from a poor performance to take the title.

Thanks Buckeye - Looking forward to getting in some games with you guys this year. Or at least just getting through school ball right now

Congrats to your girls - nice to take home some hardware early in the season - We played in this tournament last year and finished second behind the 12U Classics team - but gave us a good look at what we were going to be up against for the rest of the 11U season.

Was the Starz the Millersport all-star team ??

Viper,

The Starz were a Licking County team. I don't think they were necessarily a Millersport team.

It is always good to get a little hardware, and also qualify for the ASA Eastern Nationals "A"'s early. The players are starting to learn a little bit about themselves and each other. We played very poorly the game before the championship, but they showed some heart and came back and played great in the championship. Trying to find some consistency. And trying to do that with 11 yr olds is so easy.;&

The Stars are from the Lakewood School District in Hebron OH. It is a "select" team from all of their Rec teams. They have some good coaches so as they get more experience in Travel and more time together as a unit I think they will have some success

The Starz will have a good team. They have some good players, and their overall record wasn't indicative of the competitiveness of the games. Their coaches were respectful and classy, and it showed in their players as well. They ran into three pretty good travel teams.

First tournament in my life that this happened.

Top 3 teams were tied with 2-1 records with

Buckeye Heat beating Nightmare 18-2
Nightmare beating Classics 8-7
Classics beating Buckeye Heat 11-3

Head to Head thrown out= should have went to runs allowed
Buckeye giving up 15
Classics giving up 17
Nightmare giving up 33

But some how that did not happen, and the Classics girls did not get to play for the championship. Very sad that every coach there knew the rules but let this happen. Good job to all the teams! Very sad ending for the Ohio Classics 11u team. Great job Classics!

Can someone explain to me how when you have a 3 way tie head to head gets thrown out and then brought back in to play?? Runs against should have been determining factor for top 2 teams. I dont see how tourney director could do it any other way.

Maybe we'll get to play that game at the USSSA Southern States in a month and a half.

Before this gets out of hand, I would assume you are NOT talking about the Buckeye heat team when you state "i cant believe that people wanted to win so bad that they would cheat". We had absolutely nothing to do with the decision of who would play us in the championship game. We had asked prior to playing our 3rd pool game against the Classics what the tie-breakers were, and they were also included in the packet that was sent to every coach. We knew where we stood prior to playing the 3rd pool game. We realized what the situation could have been had three teams tied with the same record, and we analyzed every scenario. It is a shame that there are hard feelings, because the teams did play very well.

The Buckeye Heat had nothing to do with this they were playing us when all this took place. They are a class act ball club. We knew if we won the game we were in the championship playing the Heat again. Some how the rules changed during our 1 hour 20 min game.

Keith Salyer,

Thanks for the kind words.

As for score of Heat/Nightmare game, score was 4-0.

Here is ASA'S rules for any type of National Inv. for Pool Play. 3 way tie 1st is Head to Head. If everyone beat each other it goes to fewest runs allowed. If criteria is met you have determined the 1 seed. Then to determine the 2 seed you still have a tie between 2 teams and it starts all over again. 1st head to head and so on. I don't think that the Tournament director cheated anyone. That is how it has always been done and this is ASA not the other sanctions. I don't know why anyone is complaining about rules. I am reading the post why didn't your team just win and not worry about the tie-breakers? Also for your information, how can this be a NQ if you didn't play double elimination? That is a rule with ASA.
