With apologies to Adolph Coors, "I NEED TO VENT".

Daughter's high school coach told them "The shortstop gets ALL infield fly balls". Half of the players said " 'You mean the balls hit to the third base side of the field....." He replies "No, ALL fly balls in the infield - Don't argue with me!"

Tournament Ball Season can't get here quick enough.

Someone needs to ask him where the infield starts and stops ? LMAO That way I won't be confused about what I am not supposed to catch !!!!!

Doesn't sound like any questions would be taken to be more than an argument. It would be interesting to learn what his method is for this. Has there been confusion recently as to who should handle the ball on plays?

These comments surfaced because the shortstop, while having good intentions, has become over-assertive on infield pop-ups. It was becoming a battle of the "mine mine mine"'s. So, the coach, instead of re-inforcing infield protocol as to what determines who has the right to a fly ball, declares that the SS gets it.........

And don't argue with him.

So......... the rest of the team should just stand there on all infield pop ups to teach this goof a lesson.

With this kind of coaching, because we are going through a coach that has no clue also. But my dd plays 12 months out of the year to reach the next level. So you take a coach like this and the one we are dealing with, how much will this affect our dd's for college?

Did any one call him out on it or bring it up?!?

Ok, so we do pop up bunts all day long to this team just in front of the catcher. . .since obviously the corners, pitchers, and catcher will not be fielding the ball, we can have a bunt fest. Oh and then when the SS plays up for the bunt, then we will pop up into her backfield area and see how quickly she can get back to field. . .Oh this could be fun!

Wow! I feel your pain. Dealt w/a similar situation last year with my dd's coach over pitching. I bit my tongue until the kids were not around and we had a very one sided conversation.

The coach admitted to favoring the pitcher he had used the most and also admitted that she wasn't the better of the two. His reasoning for this was that the better of the two only needed to pitch in the "big" games and the other girl was good enough for the "cake" games.

Time out... I think you are over reacting here... The SS has the authority over everyone in the infield on a pop up.. Here is how it works...

Catcher is at the bottom of the list with Authority over no one, anyone else calls for it she gets out of the way....

Pitcher has authority over only the catcher, anyone else calls for it she gets out of the way....

Infielders have authority over the Pitcher and catcher, Infielders call for it, Pitcher and catcher move out of the way.

SS rules the infield, if she calls for it, all infielders get out of the way......

Outfielders have authority over any infielder. Outfielder calls for it, infielders get out of the way....

Centerfielder is queen of the diamond, Authority over all, if she calls for it she gets it everyone else get out of the way....

Maybe he was trying to explain this, that SS gets all fly balls, meaning if she called for it she gets it.....

If these rules are taught and followed, collisions wont happen....If balls are called for...
