Here is ASA'S rules for any type of National Inv. for Pool Play. 3 way tie 1st is Head to Head. If everyone beat each other it goes to fewest runs allowed. If criteria is met you have determined the 1 seed. Then to determine the 2 seed you still have a tie between 2 teams and it starts all over again. 1st head to head and so on. I don't think that the Tournament director cheated anyone. That is how it has always been done and this is ASA not the other sanctions. I don't know why anyone is complaining about rules. I am reading the post why didn't your team just win and not worry about the tie-breakers? Also for your information, how can this be a NQ if you didn't play double elimination? That is a rule with ASA.
Nice Try!!!!!!!!!!
Head to head all 3 teams beat each other. Head to head was eliminated , re-read the scores and then post again. So then it goes to runs allowed.
If that was the case we beat the champs Buckeye Heat 13 to 3. We all had 2-1 records, it should have been the Classics verses the Buckeye Heat. What are you seeding the top two teams advance. Nice try!!

Nice Try you need to know the rules. Head to Head is eliminated on the first tie breaker 3 way tie. Second you have another tie and it is back to Head to Head. If you beat the team that didn't deserve it as you have stated, then you would have been in the finals of just an earlybird tournament. ( Why critiscize a young group of girl's for beating you) As I stated before no births can be awarded without playing a double elimination bracket. ASA rule Article 511 page 67. Learn your facts. Read the Rules.

The ASA Code, as cited by stallion1, is:

Article 511 CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW.

A. Bracket. The ASA Official Double Elimination Bracket is to be used in all regional tournaments, national qualifiers, National Tournaments and National Championship Finals. All game times and field assignments are to be listed on the official bracket prior to the tournament draw.

Now, what are the tournaments listed.

1. Regional Tournaments. In Ohio, the 12U regional tournaments are May 8-10 in Massillon.

2. National Qualifiers. Here is where there can be some confusion. Article 513 descibes the National Qualifiers.

Article 513 NATIONAL QUALIFER TOURNAMENTS.

A. National Qualifier Tournaments. These tournaments are to be coordinated through the regional directors.
B. Eligible Teams. The tournaments shall be open to all member teams; however, a limit on the number of entries may be necessary because of the number of fields vailable for play. NOTE: A Junior Olympic Class B team may participate in a Class A National Qualifier. Participation in a higher classification could affect the team's classification.
C. Rosters. Teams must compete in accordance with Article 502 of this Code. Once a team has qualified for a National Championship Final through participation in a National Qualifier that team shall not be permitted to change their roster. NOTE: A team may forfeit their berth and adjust their roster as provided in Article 501, Eligibility, and Article 502, Rosters of this Code and re-enter championship play in the same or higher classification. This will include Junior Olympic GOLD teams.
D. Pick-Up Players. Pick-up players are not allowed in National Qualifiers.
E. Location. Dates and sites must be received at the ASA National Office by January 1 or the tournament shall be awarded in order of rank to the region that registered the most teams in that division and classification of play during the preceding year. Regions awarded an additional National Qualifier must accept or decline the tournament within 10 days or the tournament shall be awarded to the next region in order.
F. Allocation of the Junior Olympic National Qualifiers by division of play.
01. Junior Olympic Girls, One tournament in Oklahoma City. Gold 18-Under Fast Pitch: ( Two Berths )
02. Junior Olympic Girls, Class A 18-Under Fast Pitch: One tournament in each region.

03. Junior Olympic Girls, Class A 16-Under Fast Pitch: One tournament in each region.

04. Junior Olympic Girls, Class A 14-Under Fast Pitch: One tournament in each region.

05. Junior Olympic Girls, Class A 12-Under Fast Pitch: One tournament in each region.

06. Junior Olympic Girls, Class A 10-Under Fast Pitch: One tournament in each region.

Ohio does not have a 2009 12U National Qualifier. It is my interpetation that "National Qualifiers" as stated in Article 511 means the National Qualifiers for the ASA/USA Championship Finals, not a qualifying tournament for the ASA Eastern Championship. This is just my interpetation. You should clarify with your Local ASA Commisioner.

The confusion arises from people using "National Qualifier" in many tournament names. This is quite eveident when a tournament is posted and a lot of people ask what tournament is it a qualifier for.

As I stated before if that was the case we beat the heat 11 to 3.

1st tie breaker head to head
2nd runs allowed
3rd runs scored
4th coin toss
That is the ASA rules. It has always been this way. Every tournament is the same way. It's common sence Nightmare fan. grow up! Not a big deal someone has a guilty conscience. This has nothing to do with the Nightmare girls. Very close friends of some of the parents. Just drop it the 11u classics should have been in the championship. Good luck 11u Nightmare team.

I am on the coaching staff for the Nightmare, and I feel you are way out of line for your public criticism of our team. You have a beef with the Nightmare, send a pm to me; I will give you my cell number to discuss. I have been in coaching for over 30 years, and tournaments vary on criteria. But most tournaments, regardless of the sport, will use the standard format used at Millersport - period. We have been on the other end many times, and it is what it is.
Again, and I am asking nicely, please quit bashing a very good organization on a public forum, and take it up with myself or our organizations president if you have a personal vendetta.

First of all re-read the post, not one time did I criticize the Nightmare. You have one of the finest softball programs around. Fine group of girls, parents and coaches.[top notch] The same for all the teams in the tournament.
I just got off the phone with the ASA state commisioner Warren Jones. He is contacting the tournament director on this major blunder. I gave him all the scores and runs allowed just as I posted earlier. He agreed 100% the Classics should have been in the championship.[call him] TIE BREAKER = 1. Head to Head 2. runs against. Good luck Nightmare softball.
You can also send me a personal e-mail.

Keith, I spoke to Warren after I read your post. (Time 3:55pm) He told me he spoke to you. He said that the Tournament Director could set up his Tournament anyway he wants, since it is not a National Qualifier. Warren told me that if it was a NQ then the way Scott did it was right. He said he told you it doesn't matter because to him it is not a Qualifier. Scott also ask the umps and they agreed with him on his ruling. So you are right and Scott is right. It really doesn't matter we got in this Tournament to play games against good teams. I think Scott did a nice job, teams were Great and my players learned allot this weekend. There are no hard feelings on our end. Good Luck this year Joe Abbruzzese 12u and 16u Nightmare

Wow, I never knew some people would get so competitive at a 12U softball tournament. It sounds like all of the teams did a great job. I agree that it shouldn't have gone the way it went, but what can you do now? The tournament is over, and hopefully the Ohio Classics 11U girls won't go through this anymore. Good job Classics ladies! ;)
