Taking the field routines.

I've got something I'd like to know. What are some of the most striking or intimidating routines you've seen when the team takes the field in the first inning? Have you seen anything that strikes fear into the heart of your girls, or the coaches.

We usually have one of our 14U pitchers come over and warm up like she is going to start the 10U game.

I honestly believe the better you feel the better you play.I love pre game routines.11min of the most complicated intricate drills make your team feel like it's there field. This instills both confidence and pride into the team prior to the game. This also sets the tempo for the team, motivation, communication and execution.Everybody claps in unison showing team, everybody talking it up individually ,I just love it.
12U basic with high difficulty but very fast pace, executed to perfection.
Figure 8's infield running looping outfield moving to cover relaying good sharp throws everyone talking and everyone just in the zone for 11 min .This is AWESOME.

Thats funny ringor!!

- I have heard of a team a few years back that did a whole routine without a ball. Alll simulated throws and catches, complete with a dive and get up and throw. Those who saw it said that it was well rehearsed and looked good, not just like they were playing around!!!

The first time I heard this I thought it sounded pretty stupid...and then I saw it for real. Quite honestly it looked impressive. Maybe it was because they NEVER BOBBLED THE BALL EVEN ONCE!!!:)

Since there was no pre-game warm-up when we traveled, we would have a dive drill. Girls would run full speed, and the coach would drop the ball when they were about 10' away. Lay out and get it.

I think it's really impressive when the girls actually run onto the field and act like they want to be there.

Last year our coach had our girls on the side of the field before our game for one hour in what she called practice. She wanted our girls to do every thing right for that one hour. She said you see that team on the other side that we have to play, well I want them to watch from over there as we practice, and know that we mean business.
Then right before the game they had this chant that gave me goose bumps. It was pretty sweet !:)

Last year our coach just wandered around for an hour before every game trying to figure out the lineup while the girls played catch. He was baffled about what to do about infield practice.Twice he had a two hour practice BEFORE a game. The girls were exhausted before the game started. Thankfully we have a new coach this year!

CC14 --love that description --DEAD ON BRO' !!!! girls get feeling good they play good. (not that I like that fact but it's just that --fact ! ) never seen anything like momentum and contagiousness (is that word) with girls fastpitch. One does something great --they all want in on it. One does something stupid and mopes --others follow. MD

The thing that impresses me most are the teams that simply hustle onto the field and straight to their position. In high school many teams do a pregame lineup announcement that changes this aspect and that's fine. But in travel ball, I am always a little more leery of the teams that just hustle onto the field like they've done it a million times before. No huddle, no "1-2-3 defense!", no nothing, just take the field.

barry sanders was the best running back i have ever seen in the nfl and never danced once he would hand ball to ref and go to bench he wasnt doing anything great in his mind just ours to him he was doing his job.obviously not the same for girls but i am also weary of a team that comes out ready as you said

You're not weary. You're leery. I, too, am leery of teams that run on and off the field and act like they've played the game before.

i cant describe it in detail, but the 18u indy dreams pre-game ritual was pretty snazzy...

Yes, the professional approach has its charms, but in my dd's team's case, I think they need something to help build more of a sense of team spirit. They are younger girls, I think it will help them feel more special. They're coming off a couple of lousy years and they need some building up.
