I really wish they would just throw out the all-metro team in southwest ohio. This is the second year I believe and I'm not really sure what the criteria is to make it. Last year was so off and this year is worse.

If I am reading the link right it says that there are two voters from each division. Sounds like a scam. There are alot of huge players left off

Players are nominated by their coaches. Coaches who are members of the association can then vote for those in their divisions.

I believe this is how it works.
For state honors, only players for active members can be considered. To be an active member in OHSAA, coaches have to participate in the districts state functions, such as meeting, tournaments, etc. If a coach is passive, their players don't get recognized.

For the Metro awards, I believe that nomination forms are sent to the coaches. Coaches nominate their players along with a profile, and a committee votes for them. If coaches don't nominate their players, they cannot be selected.

These award systems have their flaws, but I think the intent is to recognize good ball players locally.

If coaches (or schools) are unwilling to be an active member of OHSAA then they probably do not take the sport very seriously. The cost is only $40.00 and they should be participating in their district functions, and meetings. In the 2008 season i know of a local school who had a clear 1st team All-State pitcher and she was not eligable for the honor because the coach (or school) did not pay the membership fee. Thats a disgrace and the players deserve better. Coaches need to get active and get their players recognized if they are worthy.

Ok, so help me out here. What is the difference between this and the All District Team that actually plays a game. It typically goes to Jrs and Srs. I know of 1 or 2 from our school that made that but it isn't the same as is listed on the "Metro" team......

Our coach was only concerned about his daughter. He got her on second team and didn't even bother nominating any players for the metro team. We had several players who I believe could have made the team.

Coaches, who are members of the SW district association, nominate players from their school and the voting takes place from these coaches in the association. It is the coach's decision whether to nominate and/or vote for all-metro recognition.

The district all-star games, played next week at UD, is a junior/senior only showcase. Coach's can nominate two players from their school and there is no voting for this process. These games are simply a showcase for upperclassman.

Whether you like the all-metro team or not, it is simply another way to get the ladies recognition for their efforts during the high school season. While not perfect, there are some who get recognition, who perhaps did not make all-state.

Personally, I would be less critical and support anything that gives these hard-working ladies some recognition. As with any awards procedure, it is not perfect, by any means.

I fully support the all metro team. It just would have been nice if our coach would have thought of someone other than his daughter for a change and given some of the other girls a chance to be seen for the fantastic players that they are.

How did the coach get his daughter on the second team? He can only nominate her, others would have voted her in. Are you suggesting that he nominated no one else from the team? Was his daughter deserving of nomination?

He had actually nominated his daughter for first team and she received NO votes. We did however have a girl on first team so the coach got to pick 2 players to be on second team. His daughter was definately not deserving and her stats prove it. This was the only meeting all season that our coach attended. To top it all off he gave his daughter and his assistant coach's daughter all the awards at the banquet.

Obviously this is a situation that you had to be a part of to understand.

Many girls don't play in the District game because of potential travel ball conflicts.

Some coaches try to spread around the honors among their players. They may have one player who really stands out, but if they only promote that player, another is completely overlooked. Therefore, a girl may get a major honor, but the coach may nomimate another girl for a different honor...
