two strike approach

What all do you teach hitters to do with 2 strikes?

I'm sure we all talk about "anything close", or "widen the zone".

Do any of you teach your players to spoil pitches- does fouling off pitches create its own set of problems?

What about taking something off of a swing to just make contact? Do you suggest or teach anything else?

Thanks

Protect the plate, foul off the close ones , run up the count so hopefully she has come into your house...

Agree...protect and make her earn that 3rd strike....We had girl this spring have a 13 pitch at bat started off 0 and 2 fouled off pitches untill she worked the count full fouled off a couple more and finally drew a walk. One of the best at bats I have witnessed.

Forget the strike zone, know your hitting zone. If your looking, your losing.

NOTHING CALLED GOES BY!!! Foul it off if you have to but dont be left standing there looking. A ball in play is a chance, a ball in the catchers mit is no help to anyone.

Anything close needs to be fouled off or put in play. And, not only know your zone, know the umpires zone and play to that. Make sure that you are hitting the ones the umpire is going to call strikes.

Or, if you are playing my daughters team swing at anything.;);&

Two things...

1. Does anyone purposely work on fouling off two strike pitches?

2. Thanks to everyone who answered the question and gave great advice. Please continue with your great responses.

I am not a fan of changing one's approach with two strikes except in two instances. No outs and a runner on second and one out and a runner on third. I would really like those balls put in play. And with a runner on second and no outs, a ground ball, preferably to the right side, would be nice.

Otherwise, I don't teach anything different than normal. By good high school varsity, 16-U or 18-U (and even good 12-U and 14-U), if you just try to tap the ball into play you are going to be out unless you can fly.

Like most people, I don't like called third strikes, but there is one exception. If a girl has a 3-2 count with nobody on base, I don't mind it. If the pitch is borderline to where it's a 50-50 proposition, I'd rather she not swing and take first base 50% of the time.

This is how I approach it with my 10u girls. With two strikes It depends on the hitter. Not all girls have the same set of skills at the plate. I tell my dd who is a lefty dragger/slapper to keep fouling off those pitches that are a little too high to hit on the ground till the pitcher comes to her. I also tell her " Don't leave it up to the umpire." the few girls that got wheels,I tell them to shorten up the swing make contact and leg it out. After all most teams move the corners back with two strikes.

Let me give it a try , I dont know if he invented it and realy do not care who did, we teach it, and use it to great success.
It is a pre load, plain and simple, the word attack is directed at the hitter to be agressive, how many times have you heard the coach tell a hitter to protect the plate, I believe that puts the batter in a defensive posture, we do not want them defensive, we want them agressive.
If the batter is preloaded theres no timing to worry over, the trigger has been cocked, all that need be done is to pick up the ball of the pitchers hip and pull the tirgger and put the ball in play. With pratice alot of force can be generated by this, Ive taught it, and seen it first hand to be effetive.
The reason we teach it to be used on a 2 strike count is we want the batter timing the pitcher if at all possible, and not get n the habit of a pre load, it does not generate the force that a properly timed hit can generate.
Another use of the attack mode is when the batter knows her bat speed is not equal to the pitchers speed, If the pitcher is throwing a 64 mile an hour fast ball and your behind the pitch, the attack mode will shorten the swing and accellerate bat speed.

Im sure there are those out there that are gonna try and shoot this explination down, so have at it.

Second that!

It's puzzling how on OFC it seems you can be goofy and be booted but attack someone and be given a pass after pass.
