I'm sure this has been tossed around before - but intersted to hear opinions. When it comes to pool play.... do you prefer to play to win to get the best seed possible or do you use it as an opportunity just to play all your girls and don't care how you seed?

Best case scenario is you get all your kids in and still win your pool.

Well said fps1 597 always play to win and hopefully you can get all the girls in pool play. Whether as a Flex D/P courtesy runner but doesn't always work out like that.

EVERYBODY plays ... a LOT ..... but doing well in Pool Play goes a long way towards Sunday success also. So, defiitely play to win, for Sunday seeding (and sleeping in, hopefully) but not at the expense of quality time for all.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Confirmed my thoughts on what most believe. Was just something I was curious to see a wider range of answers on. I have heard coaches actually state "well, this is just pool play" and had a good conversation with a coach last week who's team is well ranked in the coaches poll about this as well. Wasn't any question with that coach that you play to win every game. Sure, do your best to get everyone some time, but make changes as necessary as the game moves along to help ensure your teams a win.

I want to win 1st . period. not even debateable. If it's possible to work in your # 10 and 11 players then by means do so. Spread the PT around enough to attempt to please all parties. BUT WINNING COMES 1st. Losing on saturday sets you up for 5;30am wake up calls to get your backside handed to you by a high seed from another pool , so don't give away anything. This ain't LL or at least it should'nt be. MD (this is at age 14 FWIW)

i like to get everybody in in pool play but in certain situations where you cant win with them maybe we generally bat all 11 on saturday some may not agree with that but thats the best thing you can do because i cannot promise anything on sunday

You cant take your foot off the gas, if you stall on sunday, you dont get to just restart the engine. You have to play with the same fire all the time. Dont let the girls settle for less than their hard work should get them. Wins on Saturday mean a better mind set for Serious Sunday, as well as a supposed easier road.

MD - that's a good thought that you try to please all parties, but how do you bat all of them in the cleanup spot and play them all at SS?:lmao:

use your roster fully in pool play, all play the field and bat. Sunday... crunch time. Still have to play your 10 or 11 but bring it home!
