How many organizations make returning players tryout.....If thats the case then no position is guaranteed, so when you sign on for a team should they assume you'll stay as long as they want you? That door swings both ways, once you commit play hard, coaches, when you sign a player coach hard and fair, after the season is over see how everyone stands, its 1 season at a time thats all we can expect .

Of the true "team jumpers", I've seen a couple real stinkers. It was ALWAYS the parents. The coach gave the parents the benefit of the doubt, and it backfired on him. There should be a way to do a background check on stinker parents!

How funny would it be to have a parent tryout session?
Maybe take a dd that is a shortstop and move her to the outfield. Or how 'bout a speedy slap hitter and move her to say, 8th in the batting order. Have 7 coaches with clipboards 5 feet away from the parents to gauge any and all reactions. These coaches should have pepperspray, tasers, and maybe a firearm also! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

i've been blessed to have been on with the one and only Classics!

hey wgman, what say u? (calling out people, much, statman?)

as for the negatives, the girls i have run into that have been on multiple teams generally have more "issues"...not all, certainly not lacking in talent, just basing my findings on the numbers..i am a statman after all, i see numbers like nick cage in knowing!

While I do believe if the coach wants a girl back they should tell them that they have a spot, not a position guarantee, but still tryout. But dd was told no one had a spot and should attend tryouts. I know there were reasons for this but if they wanted certain players back they should talk to them. So at tryouts dd is offered a spot that will certainly challenge and push her, especially making the jump from a 14u this past year to 18u this coming year. She is both excited and nervous. Commitment has to go both ways.

Just like a divorce, there are two sides to every story. So before you pass judgement, you need to know the facts - otherwise you're just speculating. Two teams for us, moved to a "higher" level team for college exposure. Still friends with the original coach.

Should be a way to do background checks on coaches as well. There are some coaches and assistants who hide behind the hat. I believe every county has a way of checking records on line. You can find some very interesting information.

DD 5th year at travel. First team is no longer, played 3 years. This past year had a great year at 18u and this year decided to return to 16u with girls the same age in hopes of finishing out with. As girls mature, skill levels change, some for the better and some for the worse, and sometimes coaches decide a change is needed as ell do the parents. Its not always a bad thing.

If you are talking about criminal records, our organization does backround checks on all coaches. If im not mistaken, I believe ASA requires them now. We get them regardless, so someone with more knowledge can chime in on if I am correct in that statement.

yes all of our coaches do get background checks. A.S.A required this year only one coach needed to have a background check and ACE Certified for Nationals or A.S.A/USA. Tournaments. But the word is A.S.A is going to make ALL coaches get background checks and ACE Certified in the very near future, very near future. As well they all should.

Last year ASA required anyone in the dugout including scorekeeper to have background checks. At least Dayton ASA reps did.

Thats a great idea and it should be required of anyone associated with the team. (including parents/guardians) Do the other organizations like NSA and USSSA require it as well?

DD is on her second and final organization. Although she is with her third team/age group within the org. Wow that looks bad when you type it out...lol. Her first team at 11 she played with a team that most of the girls moved up. She played outfield and we were looking for somewhere to develop her as a catcher. We found the Starz & fell in love. Her 12U year she played with an true 12U team. Last year she was given an opportunity to play up with the 14U rather than the 13U team and since she had taken a mental step backward we decided to give it a try and it was a fantastic idea! This year she wanted to stay at 14U (instead of moving up to 16u and playing outfield) and start to catch again. She wants to try to catch some in HS. So she is with the other 14U team since the original 14U team already had 3 catchers on it not counting her....

DD has been in 2 organizations in 5 years with coaches coming and going mostly. 10U-12U with community travel team-Gahanna Lady Lions and last year with Ohio Dragon's and will be there again this year with different coaching. Had offers from some high profile teams that were looking to basically use her as an outfielder but she didn't want to limit herself yet since she catches, plays short stop and center. She wanted to keep her skill set valuable for high school and 16U teams until she decides where she really wants to play. It was a tough decision for her but based on her priorities.
