Teams holding on to a dream ??

Well this horse may have been beaten in the past but thought I'd bring it up again with a couple different twists.

1) Seems to be more teams then ever which is great, but problem being some of this teams have less then 7 girls and as little as 3 on there team. They will say oh we have girls hurt or at different things etc. Be honest with these kids and yourself and let them move on.

2) Misleading a girl when you know she will not start on your team, but you blow smoke. Be honest with these girls. If your just looking for a number let her know so she can move on if she wants to try to start somewhere else.

I think many of the new teams that have started up this year are the result of believing that the grass is greener on the other side. As with any start up, a certain number will ultimately be unsuccessful for a variety of reasons, The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I agree with you that some of these teams should be straight up with the girls and parents about the chances of not only fielding a team, but playing on the team. Maybe the team folds when the Coach realizes that his dd won't have a team to play on due to inadequate numbers. The Coach then sends his dd to another team to play, leaving the other players out in the cold. This is only one possible scenario. I'm sure there are many other reasons to start up and to fold up a team.

On the bright side, it's a long time until next year's season. Ultimately, all will be fine. Unfortunately, some girls will get hurt in the process.

A lot of times that grass is actually dead just painted green, but until you get up close you can't really tell. Then it may be to late.

You both are exactly right. But there is some circumstances where a parent or coach was with other organizationsans, was being nice really not treated fairly. So keeping all 10 girls together decided to just start own team. This was done for the girls on their own.
Any comments or suggestions

I missed something. Did a parent or coach leave the organization and take the team with them? It makes sense, especially if all 10 players wanted to stay together. The other side would be did the parent or coach discuss issues or problems with the organization. Or, did they just up and leave?

Depending on whether it was a parent or a coach could make a difference. If it was a coaching issue, then the organization should have taken steps to encourage the players to stay. If it was a parent issue, "We wish you the best of luck in finding another team."

What do you mean "this was done for the girls on their own?" Did they decide to form their own team?

I think this is becoming like a lot of things in life. Not 100% happy - don't work it out or realize that it doesn't have to be perfect, just move on.

Daughter playing every inning but in center field instead of shortstop, just move on. If noboby will let her play shortstop, start your own team. Kids used to be happy just to be able to make a team. Or if a kid wanted shortstop, they WORKED HARD to become the shortstop. Now the parents just take the instant gratification shortcut and reach into their pocket to pay another set of fees for a new team or just start their own.

What will happen is these teams will fold come winter and leave the couple girls they had scrambling to find a team. If they are good players they will catch on but the borderline girls will be left out to dry. Real fair to these kids. Put the kids first not your EGO. After all it's about the girls or is it in these cases????????????????????????

Four years ago, we were in rec ball and didn't have a clue about travel ball. DD was recruited for a start-up team. Little did we or any other of the families realize that the team was started strictly for the coach's dd because she would never make another team...except in "daddy's" hullicinating mind.

When the coach's dd played instead of more qualified girls during 2nd year, many families began to realize the truth . Several girls departed at the end of the year. However, naive and blindly loyal, we stuck around for a 3rd year. The newly recruited girls were fed a line of bull about the qualify of the team.

At the end of this summer, the coach did anything to keep the team together, or at least a partial team, together. Everyone, and I mean everyone, said "Aloha". If only parents would have a realistic view of their kids. I for one always say that if my daughter isn't playing her hardest or is messing around, "bench her and tell her why!"

So, while there are quite a few who are "greener grass jumpers", many others are "finally getting a clue jumpers".

I agree with this whole heartedly......this is about the girls and that's what the parents need to look for in a coach. Not one who is out to feed their EGO, or the team is so good because of me.......They aren't the ones on the field doing the playing, the girls are. And then you have the coaches who take all the credit, but it's really the Assistant coaches and parents doing the teaching of the fundamentals etc....... All sports need to get back to the basics of why the parents started the organizations and the travel ball in the first place.....FOR THE GIRLS !!!!!!!

Bottom line too many teams! There should be some sort of qualification that an orgnazation or teams have to qualify before they are allowed to compete.

we asked howard kobata last night about so.cal and he says the same thing is happening out there... Daddy starts up team for his kid so they can bat 3rd , beat the ball around the infield and hopefully surround their kid with enough talent so no one will notice....

They do!!

They have to have nine players and the entry fee. Lets face it all the good or bad originations start the basic same way and that's from rec ball and daddy takes the team or daughter and starts a select team. If team does well then dad with younger DD wants to come and coach and a origination is born.

I started out in rec ball as a coach. Took an All-Star team from the county to fall tourneysevery year to expose girls to more talent. After three years got disgusted with county(rec)ball and started a travel ball team fo all the "good" girls localy that were interested...it was the worst coaching experience of my life...at the end of the season my dd was persued by several teams. I had to let go of coaching her, for her to benifit...It was hard and it took me a long time to "step" aside for a new and better coach...we have been there ever since. It has not always been a smooth road...however it has been the right road for both of us.... We have both made lifelong friends on this team and i feel priveledged to be a part of our org. Tha coach has a dd on the team and I feel there is no daddy ball influence. So I think everyone is alittle right and alittle wrong so far...good forum question...
P.S. scott should be Obamas fastpitch softball team qualification CZAR...:lmao::lmao::lmao:

When you go to tryouts always check out the skills of the manager's and coaches daughters. In my opinion if the coaches dd is the 10th or 11th best player there will be problems by the end of the year. She will probably play instead of a more qualified girl, usually at second base. That way dad gets her in the infield and she has that short throw. Also dad bats her second even though she can't hit. Just some things to watch out for at tryouts. JMHO ;) sound familar anyone.

Right on brother! You are definately looking at the right spot. I have seen more poorly skilled players at 2B than any other position. Would it be a safe bet that all of these teams looking for a few more players already have a second baseman?
