Coaching Story...

This is the slow season on OFC. I thought I'd add an amusing story that happened last night. Add your own annecdotes to share the beauty of our sport.

My daughter was at her pitching lesson last night. Coach was working on a particular pitch (I wasn't paying attention at the time). 'Had a "batter" in the box - pitch was supposed to be down & in - my daughter fired a juicy one belt-high and right down the middle.

Coach looks at her and calmly says "Do you know what you do after that pitch?"

"No."

"Meet the batter at Home Plate and give her a High Five because she just hit a home run"......

When my dd throws one down the middle like that her pitching coach makes her apologize to her center fielder.

The wire ones? We are looking at those too - do the kids like them? We feel it's just getting to be time. Things are heating up!

I think Duck is the prime answer in that situation!

they really like them. I know of 2 other threads out there that discuss Rip-iT vs the game face.

Yea, they can see better, and there is less attitude with these instead of the plastic ones. Pitches in the red will make the girls use the too.

my dd changed from a gameface to a rip-it last season. She likes it a lot better. Can see a whole lot more.

A couple of weeks ago at a fall ball game my dd was filling in on, a girl hit a beaner right at the short stop, it bounced hard right in front of her and hit her above her eye very hard. As they were tending to her and bringing her off the field the whole infield came in and got their masks. All had them... none were wearing them. They were all wearing them after that. :lmao:

After about 3 months of pitching lessons with her coach, my dd throws a fat one down the middle, her pitching asked her what she would do after that pitch. She shrugged her shoulders and said "it's a strike." He responded: "Yeah its a strike, but you need to ask Blue for another ball because the batter just took you deep." Her expression was priceless. That day she realized that just because the pitch may be a strike doesn't mean it was a good pitch.

Whats worse than that is when the batter sees on of those and lets them go by. The pitcher knows she got by with one and the batter just cant belive wht they let go.

Not to mention all the coaches start yelling!!!

.........and in some cases the chanting... "You've seen it..."

Tony Perez - love that guy. I remember a game where he called a fake pitchout - it was marvelous. Don't see that much anymore.
