I thought Dan and his staff did a great job trying to keep up with the fields even while it was raining a little on and off Friday night.

It was nice meeting some OFC people that stopped by and introduced them selves.

During our demonstration it was great to hear one of the kids we were using say, OH my God I can feel the difference when we did the heads up verses down to see which way feels stronger.

Sunday morning Marcia and I stopped by McDonald's and as we walked in the door one of the girls from the Ice yelled out Howard I got a triple this morning! Thanks! Too early in the morning to try and scare me...:D

We had a good time and Crystl even said these people are so nice around here in the Midwest....however can some turn the heat up a little please?

This will be her first winter in the Midwest as she is living in the Akron area for now....I told her she needs to get a scrapper to clear off her windows and she wanted to know what one looked like :eek:

This is what happens when they grow up in Southern California....

Stingrays Blair finished 2-2-1
Our two losses came to Chi-Town Express and Michigan Outlaws.
Very impressed with the colleges that were in attendance.

I love when I read these posts and people say that they were or weren't impressed with the number of college coaches that were in attendance. Do they really think that they were all there just to see their kids. Well that what it sound like when I read it. Listen Ive been watching these college exposure events now for over a year and bottom line our Ohio girls are fighting some pretty big odds getting full rides to major D1 schools. And I don't care what anyone says the odds are even greater for some random coach to be strolling by a random game and being impressed with a player, those are Lotto Odds as well. My opinion is most of these coaches show up for these events because they are all ready looking at a specific kid!

My advice is this and this comes straight from a coach I spoke with Sunday ( Not the chubby North Western Michigan coach either) Your really looking to go to the school of your choice break out and spend the money for their camps. These big programs in my opinion want to see your talent on their time, and your dime!:lmao: And after you attend those camps blow up the coaches email with your teams schedule so maybe she or he will come and watch.

I in no way meant for my statement to come across that I would think they were all there to see my DD. My DD has nothing to do with the statement. The context of my post was geared toward the number of colleges in attendance and who was in attendance.

If the OHSAA wasn't such a dinosuar, Td's like me could give away some great money prizes so the kids could afford to go to some great Winter tournaments to be seen.

Even the NCAA allows TD's in other states to give $5000 first place prizes for expenses to attend a tournament elsewhere. It's done in many states throughout the West and South. Our girls are being put at a disadvantage compared to girls in other states which I believe is Federally wrong for the disparity of the treatment of the girls in search for the Div I free ride.

Sad, when the NCAA calls Ohio a "dinosuar".. Just sad to me and I am sad for the girls from this area who work so hard to achieve a goal and put at a disadvantage when compared to girls from other states.

If I ever hit the lottery, I'll sue the jerks to make it right for our Ohio girls. Heck, maybe I'll hold a 4th of July tournament since the GAPPS moved their event to raise money for an attorney to fight OHSAA.

It is true that Showcase Tournaments are only a part of getting seen. You are almost certain to get more face time at a clinic or camp, especially if the coach knows that you are interested in that school. He/she will know this by the emails that they have been receiving from the girl.

Now, that being said.........there are some instances where girls get offers from colleges, at showcases, without even having that college on their list. It happened last year at the Stingrays tournament where a young lady was offered a scholarship to a Div 1 school. How much the scholarship was is not important. What is important is that not only do coaches come to tournaments to look at the girls on their list, but to also look for talent to fill a hole in their roster. Last year, DDs team had several coaches tell us that they watched a girl and they would like some more info (morse code for "tell the girl to email us").

Plus, someone from the team should be keeping track of which college coaches were there so that the girls can send emails to the colleges on their list thanking them for coming and watching.

Sorry, but many girls play for the love of the game as well. Are full rides the only thing out there, Nope, are many going to get them, nope, do they have to work to be seen, yep, but at the end of the day, they should want the education first and if they get a chance to play softball while doing so, even better, with or without money for playing. I know mine would have played for free if she chose to play...

The Brass ring isn't the only reason the girls play, even at high caliber play and if a coach happens by chance to see something he or she likes, that's awesome....

What's the size of a coach have to do with their abilities anyway????

Central Ohio Ice 18U had a solid weekend by going 3 & 2.

Lost a tough 0-1 ballgame to Buckeye Heat Toledo 0-1 to start things off, but then rolled off 3 wins in a row against the Louisville Stunners (2-1), Indiana Shockwave (6-4), and the Indy Diamond Chix (2-1). After a long 5 hr wait, we lost 0-5 to the Indy Crush. We lacked energy in the Crush game. I suspect the 2 injuries (broken finger & jammed knee) and illness (flu?) were contributing factors.

Overall, it was a great way to start the '09-'10 campaign.

For a first year event, I thought it went very good despite the weather. Competition was good, umpires were so-so, some were just to sensitive ;) and there was a good number of colleges present.

Would have liked to see at least the batters box lined for every game.

Ohio Hurricanes went 2-2-1. First game on Sat was 7:30am. Up at 5:15. lights were on for warm ups at 6:30am 34 degrees...brrr. last game Sat at 9:00PM finished under the lights.. still cold. Did have a couple coaches ask about players. Had another that was there to see a player or 2. Good event would go back.

I will disagree ALL day long regarding the serendipity that is a factor in the college recruiting process, YES, you have to make the contacts, but the fact is that more often than many think, preparation and opportunity intersect, and if you are not at an event that draws tough competition and teams, and therefore draws coaches, the lines will never intersect, and that is shame.

I am sure that anyone that has "for the last year" attended exposure events (which ones?), has a better grasp of the recruting process than I do, but, everyone is welcome to their opinion.

Cliff enjoyed talking with you....when Crystl was asked during the demo what it takes to get to the next level she was brutally honest. Are you willing to work on your sport when everyone else is at the mall or hanging out? She pointed out her grandfather had died during the Olympics and she stayed with the team, she has missed weddings, births because she was on tour with the team or working out. She ask by show of hand how many of the girls had a used a tee this week other than in an organized practice 6 times, 5 times, 4 times, 3 times, 2 times and one girl raised her hand out of about 60 plus girls. She said YOU knew you were coming to a show case and you did not prepare to best at your best! Your parents paid for rooms, gas, food and YOU did not prepare to be seen by college coaches? Why did you even bother to come if you were not prepared to be at your best?

Some dream about taking it to the next level and others have a plan to play at the next level and they are the ones working harder than you are and their parents do not have to push them to practice, they do it on their own and it shows. You could have heard a pin drop!

Cliff and I talked about data as to hitting and he understands how to get a kid in college and what it takes and that is data as far as I am concerned for getting your kids seen.
