This Mind set of Ohio teams being watered down is really out of text. These are the teams or coaches that are complaining are the ones that want the best of the best, to take to tournaments. With these kids life is easy for a coach, the girls are dedicated and so are the parents, cost to play is not an issue, coaches dont have to teach or train the girls to play, coaches dont need to teach the basics of the game to the girls. etc.
Coaches have been thinking for to long that there is only 3 Classifications
1.) "A" Division --- Thought to mean Elite or Gold Team
2.) "B" Divisions --- Thought to mean New or young "A" Division team
3.) REC Division --- Thought to mean Daddy ball team, playing just in local municipality.
When there is really 4 Classifications of Divisions
1.) Gold Division --- Means the Elite Teams, the best of the best, plays up alot in age or travels out of state to play teams of equal ability.
2.) "A" Division --- Means no player restrictions on residency, or in player participation in other programs.
3.) "B" Division --- Means Players must all play in the same league or must come from a youth program that allows all girls that registered to play, to play on a team ie. no cutting of players.
4.) Rec Division --- Means players play in a government or municipality run program, which has some type of residency requirment.
The problem is the coaches that think they are something they are not.
Gold Division: These teams are still around and are the top teams in Ohio year after year, you know who they are. They travel to other states to play, play year round etc. These teams will get bigger and better, as there is now even more talent to choose from. This division is not an issue except for more teams should be in this class, instead of "A" Division. ie. Lazers, Slammers
"A" Division: Second biggest problem area. To many of these teams and coaches think they are an Elite team, when in fact they are just an "A" Team by all standards. Untill these teams have no equal in the "A" Division then there just an "A" Team.
"B" Division: Here is the largest problem area. To many new or young "A" Teams think they are in this division, which is right based on their talent but they should be playing in fastpitch league and doing "B" tournaments to get these girls to the next level. Just because you are the worst "A" Division team does not mean you are a "B" Division team then. Play at your teams level and in the appropriate place.
Rec Division: not an issue, but many high talent ball players are in this division. To many players or parents in this group do not know about travel or cant afford it. The top players in this group can and will be able to compete with anyone but they need a coach that can teach them the needed skills and to teach them the game. Most coaches though dont want to or are not able to teach, so they look for the girls that do not need this training ie the real Elite or "A" division player which are not in the rec program.
Coaches know what class team you are, and play at that level, work on making your team and players better. If the real "B" teams recurit out of other "B" teams and out of the Rec programs, then teach and train the girls the "A" Division teams will gain even more talent to choose from in return. Then the Gold teams will get even more talent to choose from coming out of the "A" Division and so on.
Work together as teams and organizations to build each Division up. Quit miss classifing your teams and then complaining its because the talent pool is watered down. If its done right the talent pool will be bigger and better then it has ever been, this is what seperates the south and west teams from Ohio.
