I have seen and been to both clinics by Dave Leffew at Ashland U. and Bill Hillhouse. Sorry , but I would have to go with Bill hands down. All you have to do is look at Bill's resume . Dave was a very successful high school coach , but is very old style when it comes to pitching methods and training. .

This should give someone an idea of how the College pitching coaches and international coaches view Bill.

I have had my DD to Bill when he comes to the area. I have watched him pitch and he does finish across his body. There are many pitching instructors out there. The key is to find the one that best suits your daughters needs and helps her improve her craft. I saw Bill this past weekend and he mentioned that Cat has the best mechanics he has seen. My daughters pitching coach follows a lot of what Bill teaches. She is 10 and I have seen her improve greatly over the last year. Bill told me from the last time he saw her last year that she has improved. Be happy with what your daughter is learning and enjoying the game. Bashing one pitching style over another is silly. To each his/her own.

That is really my only problem with Hillhouse, he preaches about the "absolutes" of pitching mechanics. One of those is that the pitcher MUST finish across the body. I don't see that to be the case for two reasons;
1. I have watched way too many hours of pitching videos on the web and on dvd's, attended numerous NPF games, spent thousands of dollars on my dd's pitching lessons over the years, Watched many of the top High School players....blah blah blah. Not one instructor, NPF, or college pitcher advocates, or practices his method of across the body finishing in so far as I can see, and I have been looking for it.
2. No one can argue his accomplishments in the circle. As to his "absolutes" on mechanics, where are all his students that went on to be scholarship athletes? I would like to see the list. Where are the other pitching instructors that teach the "Hilhouse method" of pitching? If his methods are truly absolutes and offer huge gains in speed, control, or injury prevention, they would be spreading like wildfire and every college pitcher in the country would be finishing with their hands above the glove side shoulder.

If his method works for you, great. I just think its a little arrogant on his part to state that his method is the only way to pitch correctly, when there seems to be so much evidence to the contrary.

What Doug Gillis and Bill Hillhouse teach are virtually identical.

For the record, I am not saying Bill teaches the wrong style, he doesn`t. I am quite sure what he teaches works. I personally know one of his best students who did get a very nice scholarship to a division one college. What I am saying is, his methods are not the only methods that work as evidenced by Cat, Finch, Michelle Smith etc. By the way, all their styles are different from each other. Lisa Frenandez was also different from what Cat, Finch, and Smith do/did.
There are world class pitchers who stop the wrist snap at the hip, some follow thru straight up, some finish across the body. Some live on the curve, some on the rise, some on the drop. Pitchers come in all sizes. That also means their levers (arms and legs) come in different sizes and lengths. The way a long arm and legged pitcher delivers speed may be different than a short stubby pitcher. My point is, an instructor has to take into account there are different styles that suit different pitchers.

In the words of an old wise man,"A man can only do what a man can do, and that goes double for women."

What Bill Hillhouse, Doug Gillis, and others teach is not that there is only one way to pitch, but that there are certain absolutes that the best pitchers in the world demonstrate. Styles are things that can vary from pitcher to pitcher, such as windups.

HI-JACK RECOVERY MODE ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

Back to the originally scheduled Cali / OH discussion thread.....

Looks like OH is closing the gap even more in 2010, and much more so then past years with the surging OHIO Hawks org hitting FP Development hard from all angles and now Bill Lilley and others will announce, OH INtensity as a full blown organization.

Info reported from the OH INENSITY with permission to share:

"We'll have 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U

------NO 18Gold
The few kids who SHOULD be playing 18 Gold, this level will move to the parent team in New Jersey for 18Gold action."

THOUGHT THIS MIGHT GET THIS THREAD ON TRACK AND SHOW SOME SERIOUS PROGRESS ON CLOSING THE GAP BETWEEN OH & CALI.....

No doubt there will be at least 65 more families/players committed to developing year round! 65 more reasons for Coaches to come to OH. ^_^!

Tim or Boulders Dad has often said, "Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife." Proverbs 25:24

Which corner of the roof would you give a guy like that anyway?

That white stuff and cold won't stop the OH Intensity kids from getting the work done.

It's all about commitment and love of the game and having qualified resources available to develop the skills.

Anyone worried about the weather need not apply for the 65 new openings in OH Intensity 10u thru 18u. ^_^! hahahahahahaha
