A friend of mine in Modesto California called yesterday and told me it was sunny and warm...he has been watching the thread and laughing.

As someone born and raised in Modesto, I can tell you that the weather is about the only thing that Modesto residents can lord over others. :D

Carol the sad part is he is Mexican American and is given no credit as to what he knows....I felt it when we were giving the clinic back in May. His daughters hit the **** out of the ball however and they all want them to play on their teams. We have a long way to go in human relationships still in sports! If he was from the Dominican Republic he would be accepted for his knowledge

This will be the last one in Ohio this year as she is managing the Racers this year. I am sure she we will be doing some Racers clinics using actual Racers players during the summer as she has talked about it already.

We will be in Pennsylvania the first and last week of February also.

Thanks Howard

Can you shoot me a web addy or will it be posted in here as to time and location? I would love to be able to make one of those. If its not too terribly far east I have a good shot at it according to the calendar.

They are not better. You people need to get off your smugg attitudes about it. They have more teams and that is all it is. Come back down to earth point your noses down so you can see the screen. Then you will be able to see the **** you are putting down.

Um, I think someone is getting his perception of posts clouded by his emotions. And he is not being very civilized about it either. I really challenge you to show us the "smugness" in any of the posts. Most of the posters on this thread have devoted substantially all of their non-work time to Ohio softball.

Ok,
1st of all ASA Gold is only in 18u age group.
Next the California players know they are better, they put the time in to get better.
They have pitching coaches, hitting coaches, fielding coaches, strength coaches.
They are also allowed to practice durring high school season.
They also know they can take our scholarships from us, and their girls aren't affraid to go to college more than 4 hours away from home. (that's pushing it, I was going to say 2)
If they are on the right California team, they don't even have to play to get those scholarships. - I know that for a fact.
They also travel to the best showcase tournaments

Ohio players (or coaches) for the most part don't want to practice all year.
Most of the players are not motivated enough to put the time in.
Most of the parents are affaid of competition, so instead of a couple of really good teams, we have a bunch with a couple of good players.
Most parents think their kid must play short or pitch, if she doesn't play there they make their own team so she can play there.
Most parents don't like their little girl being pushed or disciplined.
Most parents won't pay the money for a pitching coach, hitting or fielding coach.
Most parents don't want to pay the money so that their travel team can go to the right showcases to be seen by college coaches.
I see a pattern here.
The kids I have come accross will jump through walls for me and will learn everything and more that is taught to them.
The coaches think or act like they know it all, and are either to affraid or to proud to look for or ask for help.

Athletic ability - Our girls are just as athletic (maybe more so) as any California player I have seen.

The California players have more dedication to the game and their coaches are definitely more in tune with what the college coaches want.

Can we beat a California team, sure, I beaten them, and so has some other programs around here.
Can we compete with them for the college scholarships, not right now.
Not until we stop teaching what we want and we start teaching what the college coaches want.
Not until we throw those trophies away and start doing more local friendly tournaments so we can save money to go to the big showcase tournaments where all the college coaches are.

Since this is already to long and I pretty much offended everyone out there so far, I will quit and wish everyone good luck with their teams.

fastpitchlvr -- not trying to pick a fight but have you been to ASA nationals ? Do you have a team you are associated with that has competed at nationals ? if this info has already been posted I apologize. MD FWIW I've been there , AT THIS POINT they have far more depth of good teams than us. thats just how it is. I said depth , NOT that a team or two can't hang but overall depth.

Tangs hit the nail on the head.

Was it this thread or another one that was getting on a girl and her family for "going for it" and heading all over the country to get the big colleges out west and down south to notice her. Now this thread rambles on about the weather, the population, and assorted other reasons we get our butts handed to us on a consistant basis at nationals. Quit with the excuses, its simply that they are willing to seek out the best training, put in the time, and go to the right tournaments to get the big dog universitys to look at them. We as a group in Ohio softball have CHOSEN not to do what it takes to be successful in those areas.

The talent pool is rich in this state, but the dedication to chasing the goal is less than required to be sucessful.

I agree........ If you want to play elite get off your collective duffs and do so thats the only way you become that way......... I,ll tell you what ive noticed,,,,,,Ohio almost seems to me to be a welfare state of softball with all the entitlement attitudes it has......... easier to set and talk and pi$$ moan.......... if talking could win a game ,Ohio would tear the west coast teams up........

I was in Alabama last week and had the opportunity to talk to a high school softball coach. Alabama High School's started practices on 1-10-10. They are allowed to play 50+ games during the high school season plus 5 tournament. These games do not include the games they play in their sectionals, districts, etc. It is a contributing factor that they have almost a month and half more practice than we have and more than double the number of games we play in Ohio.

THANK YOU UMP....!!!!!!! Agreed there is a seriously HIGHER BRAND of ball we compete against at Nationals. Exactly why I started the new thread "OH FP - The Next Level". So, to all those that get it and potentially have DDs that dream or have goals of PAC10, SEC, .......... OHIO must develop a TEAM OHIO BRAND (I already believe we have it, but not on an ORG level... per say....) and all those willing to serve as resources to make this happen should come together so our OH ELITE receive the Highest Rewards for their families and their blood sweat and tears instead of taking a 2nd, and 3rd seat to Cali, Texas, Florida, ........

I know I would never work as hard as my DD, if the silver lining at the end was Playing Ball at St. Thomas Moore College. Heck, we can go to any college in Ohio we want now.... Why kill yourself for X years to go to the same school & Play ball. Not a vary equiatable investment in time or money. ****, OSU is almost free compared to other states State Schools.

I love Ohio fastpitch. I let my frustrations with you guys get me fired up. Act like a bunch of know it alls.
All the idolizing you people do is funny. Just like in life behind kissing is so funny. I am glad you all can't notice it. Maybe you should all bring your noses back down to earth and you will be able to see Ohio has some darn good players.
The population is the only difference. My oldest DD has played for over 10 years and 6 of them has been year round. Can you believe it even here in Ohio you can play and practice year round.

Let me also touch on something here. If all of you know so much and what the problems are how come you can't fix it. There is enough of you on here if you could all get your players together it would be the greatest team in the world.

Fastpitchlvr, you are partly right. Population has alot to do with the west coast success. However here is what some of our people are missing. Out west, softball is considered right up there with basketball and volleyball and soc##r in popularity. That means softball attracts its share of the states best athletes. Here in Ohio, softball is maybe 3rd or 4th on the list in attracting our best athletes. Sure a few of our best athletes play softball, but not nearly as many as basketball and volleyball gets. So as a result the teams out west have more better athletes playing softball. Weather does make a difference also. Another factor is they do not have to travel NEARLY as far as we do to play against great competition, it is right around the corner out west. We end up having to fly somewhere far away to play against top level competition. Not very many people have made THAT kind of commitement, or CAN make that type of commitment.
I have made this point before, but will again. Their best girls make up college teams like UCLA, Stanford, AZ etc. Our best make up Kent St, Bowling Green etc. Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with playing at our MAC colleges. It is what it is. What it is not is at the same level as UCLA etc, because those teams are made up of better players.
I have no doubt if some of our kids were brought up out west, they would have those types of skills too.
