Softball and baseball games are free of charge for the Firelands, Northern Ohio, and Sandusky Bay Conference.

SHL umpires are some of the best in Ohio!

Most of the high school baseball and softball fields that I know of are not set-up for adequate crowd control (gates to funnel spectators thru to collect fees). So, it would be like herding cats trying to get everyone to pay.
I agree and our ****** field is even worse. I collect gate fees at alot of these games and have come to the conclusion that paying to get into these games is voluntary(too many ways to sneak around me):lmao: I think most people don't realize our main goal in collecting gate fees is to offset our expenses for umpires and security/emts(when playing eastside of Cincy teams) ;)

Have you ever had to pay to attend a regular season HS softball game?

Our HS does not have a field and we have rented a city field the last few years, now they have moved our homefield to the OSP which is 12 miles away from the school in a different county. Aside from all the logistical issues I was concerned with asking visiting team parents to pay a gate fee (this is assumed knowing how the OSP operates). I know that this has been the norm for basketball and volleyball forever, but I have never been to a regular season HS softball game that had a gate fee. What are your thoughts?

Would it matter if the gate fee was going to the school versus the OSP?

Wow, first off, good luck with getting in all the games. I think everyone that has experienced working with OSP understands the many issues that "could" come to light. IF OSP charges to get in to your High School game and doesn't provide some type of cut, it would be a shame, but not a shocker. I am certain it will said they need the monies, again if they collect, to maintain the fields. (cough, cough).

Don't get me wrong great fields, but poor management of the facilities will be the down fall.

It's the wave of the future. Get ready to start paying a gate fee for any school function.

In our school district, some HS charged a small admission fee while others did not. After a while, the district opted to have all HS charge the same fee to be consistent. Haven't been to any games in a while so not sure what the is current admission cost.

The3dm, I'm sure that your school is having to "lease" a field and services from OSP and I'd bet that expense was not budgeted. So, the school will have to try to make up for that unforcasted expense.

If you charge a gate fee and that money goes to the Athletic Department who in turn uses it to pay off the expense to OSP, what would it matter? I would do it this way. Some schools utilize athletic passes that are good for any school home athletic event during the school year. If OSP is collecting the fee, then these passes would not be valid, I would think. Just a thought..

It is actually the same cost as what we were spending for the field down the street from the school. The only added cost I believe will be the transportation needed to get the team(s) to the field and BACK to the school. The past two years there was no need for transportation back to the school after home games since the field was local to the school.

Wow, my head is starting to hurt just thinking about the added costs and hassles. I don't think that charging just the visiting parents to pay will fly though. I think you would have to charge all spectators:( unless the school can find a sponsor(s).

Good luck.

That's too bad. The fields you had are maintained very well. My son plays there for his travel team in the summer. The bad thing about paying is we (parents) are the ones going to these games and forking over more money. So why not just ask us for more fees and keep it free? I also read that the OSP owner was having some financial problems. He had until today Jan 22 to pay creditors.

All Spectators would be charged the same. The point I was trying to make was that the visiting parents would be surprised by having to pay when usually they don't have to.

Only place I recall that I had to pay for a regular season HS softball game was last year at Massillon HS.

Not a fan of it but also not going to miss the game over $6.

Not sure why Massillon charges but your situation appears to be different.

I believe u answered ur own question...because its Massillon!!!! :lmao:
They have no league affiliation so they can set their own prices.

The 3dm:

Just out of curiosity, does your school have a baseball field for the boys?

Our "HS varsity softball field" is at a city park across town and about 2 miles from the H.S. The girls have to get themselves to and from home games.

I believe the JV plays at another city park field that is closer to the HS.

I guess at least the "Price" is right.
