Triplethreat:

I have been trying to get the word out. But every time, I or anyone else post something about it, it is followed by 15 post's about how this breaks the rules of the OHSAA, or how it counts against the 17 game rule, or they can play to through the regionals, but not in the state tournament...

And I understand those thoughts... I just don't understand how these same questions are not asked when discussing travel ball teams. I counted 40+ tournaments for 14U from Mid April through June 13... If girls play on a MS (OHSAA) sanctioned team, and are worried about the 17 game rule to abide by OHSAA Rules, how are they also playing in these tournaments with a travel ball that they are not supposed to be engaged with until the June 12 drop date. I cant believe that they have played all 17 games by Mid April and are released by then?

From what I have been told, MSA has contacted the OHSAA and everything has been OKed, blessed, by them. So it should all be good.

Thanks for the thought provoking conversation!!!!

Not all of Ohio has MS softball. In some areas it has not gained much traction yet. Most MS teams are done the first week in May. When the team is done, the players are generally released and are then able to play for their summer teams.

In the past, OHSAA's last day of the season has coincided with the completion of the state tournament. For some reason this year, they have added a week to finish up games. That extra time seems to confict with the idea that the MS state tournament would be after the OHSAA season and thus would not count against the 17 game, one tournament limit. Seems to be a gray area to me. The state seems to turn their heads on some things and not on others. I would be leery to enter until I had somethign in writing from Roxanne that this is indeed legal.

Yes, as having an 8th grader last year enduring 12 of 25 games being rained out, i imagine the MS Athletic Directors extended the season a week to make time for the fact that half the season can be rained out. It was a really bad experience last year, as we were hoping to get 25 games on the mound, but had to settle for 12 due to weather. Not sure we would have played MS Ball if we knew it would be such a bad experience due to weather. ADs are probably realizing that too, and adjusting, not realizing that by May 9th, the kids that are dedicated to fast pitch are already moved onto their travel teams. Should be interesting how things play out this season. I would think MS Kids will opt towards ASA qualifiers instead of MS rain-outs come first week of may.

I'm not a fan of school ball because of all this goofy baggage that comes with it. Another case of adults screwing things up with enough rules to make you puke. DD plans on going for her MS team this year, first time, as her travel team will be practice only until school ball is over this year. (relax, practice for only non-school players :)). Won't let her if it interferes with travel ball.

Triplethreat, I take it our school does not plan on going to this June thing? What date would she be released? IS your DD playing again and which team?

is your school OHSAA sanctioned? If so... how could they play 25 games, with the 17 game rule. I mean I realize that you only got 12 in, We had 14 last year, and that included 3 games on a saurday for the Season ending Touranment... so I know what you mean with the rain outs... but I was just wondering how your were scheduled for 25 games, is OHSAA only allows 17.

We are not under the OHSAA rules for our club team, so we are able to play as many as we can get in to.

The best you can do with OHSAA MS teams is 22 contests: 17 games, 2 scrimmages and one three game tourney. I have also been told but not sure if true that if you play the tourney before your season ends the games in the tourney count against the 17. So if you schedule 17 games before the tourney but you have some rain outs, you play 14 games and then the tourney you can't reschedule the games after the tourney that were rained out. This doesn't make sense to me but if you throw the OSHAA into the mix then it makes perfect sense.
