I know this tourney is coming up this next weekend in Cincy, but haven't seen or heard a whole lot about it. Anyone here with knowledge of it, past experience with it, etc.? I did get a long list of confirmed college coaches that have RSVP'd to stop by at the event this weekend, so it can't be half bad. It is advertised as being done "in conjunction with ASA" and their coaching clinic in Cincy that week, so it'll be fun to see 3-4 umps on the field directing traffic for even the most "insignificant" pool game. ;-) haha.

Any thoughts?

My first time too. I have never even been to Mid America Park. As long as it's better than Pasttime. Will be fun to see 3 umpires who "are being evaluated". Coaches should argue every little thing just for fun.

First time for me also.........Boy would that be interesting if all the coaches argue everything, wonder potentially how many could get kicked out......LOL.
Looks like we will be at Mid America Park also......Good luck to all!!

This event is connected with the ASA 3-man instructional class. Umpires have to pay "X" amount of dollars for the class and then umpire for free at the tournament.

I wouldn't argue a lot... LOL

Mid America Park is a nice park... take plenty of bug spray for the night games ( if there are any). It is located along the Great Miami River. Doesn't take rain very well though.

Rumpke can take rain... great grounds crew. Easy to get to. No warm up areas. Lots of shade.

Take I-71 or I-75 south to Cincinnati. Take I-275 west and it connects with I-74 west. Right after these two interstates merge.... the first exit is Miamitown exit ( St. Rt. 128).. Go North (right) for approximately 5 to 6 miles and the park is on the right.

You'll swear that Quakerman gave you terrible directions as you drive and drive and see nothing...LOL Then all of a sudden you see the park out in the middle of nowhere land. An oasis of lights...LOL

Driving from Rumpke Park to Mid America Park is about a 10 minute drive and only a couple of turns.

Mid-America Park is a hidden park as you can't see it from the road. I hope they have signs out for the teams pointing them the way to the Park from the four way stop.

I don't know about that. Call Danny Saylor at the Rumpke Park and ask him. I am sure he can tell you that.. concerning both parks. Danny is the ASA Commish for Metro Cincinnati and runs Rumpke Park. Great guy.

At Rumpke, teams are better off not going into the gate to find a place to warm up. Outside the gate, there are some small areas for warm-ups. Stake your "claim" early though.

I almost bet you can bring a camper to Rumpke. They have many Mens Majors events there and I am sure it is not uncommon for such. But, I can't say for sure.

If they don't allow campers at Mid-America... a short drive to Rumpke ( if they allow camping) is no big deal to park your camper for the night.

For directions for most I would exit I-275 at Blue Rock Rd (#31), turn right and that takes you right into New Baltimore. You can see where the fields are from map below. Quicker. Map= http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=N...e=39.264702&longitude=-84.667503&geocode=CITY

best of luck with the weather

"fastpitch Showdowns" has a long way to go when weather challenges their schedule! They are very quick to cancel many many games. A revised schedule is also a big challenge for them. Check the Capitol City/ Bat Wars thread to see what teams are saying about last weekend's debacle.

Yes, Mid America was formally named Eggelston. I would imagine they will do their best to get the fields ready since these parks make their money by having people come in the gate not sit at home.

I just now realized when I went to the tourney's promotional site that it is the "1st Annual" Queen City Showdown, so that answers my question as to how long it's been around. haha. Hoping for good weather in Cincy this weekend - and hoping these fields are as "game" as many of the teams that will be there. I think FastpitchShowdowns will do its best to make things happen if any snags come up. Lots of teams counting on this tourney to go well in Cincy this weekend. Slowly but surely this area is hosting more and more events - making these events successful will go a long way for all of Ohio softball.

Tim/Quaker, if you read this post, what is your opinion on how these fields at Rumpke will transfer to the fastpitch game, since I think this park was originally intended for slowpitch or baseball. I am assuming it's 43' pitching?

It's .. Danney Saylor 513-738-2646 If Danney don't answer himself.. it is his asst. E-mail addy is: Dan.saylor@rumpke.com

Park website: www.rumpkeballpark.com

On that website it has a rainout number at 513-629-9809

Whether that is the rainout number going to be used by the tournament.. I do not know. But, that is the ball park rain out number none the less.

Hopes that helps you out.

Pastime used them last year as an overflow for one of their event. The older teams liked it actually. I was umpiring down at Rumpke.

On Sunday of that same tournament.. I was at Mid America after a Saturday rain.. the fields were up and going. Except there was a snag and miscommunication in one of the age groups and the diamonds were not ready as their management had not told the workers.

As you well know, ASA doesn't have many options for Cincinnati area for parks except on the westside and ASA Men's are the majority of the events being played there.

Cincy ASA is holding her event at Mid America Ballyards the weekend after as a NQ, Cincy Metro open to all teams. I think 18u. I think she made the 18u and 16u separate dates. But, ASA has been bouncing around dates as it was also the same weekend of the ASA 18u States. Last I heard they were working it out. What that means... your guess is as good as mine.

Both are respectable parks.... as long as they don't have men's all-nighter the Saturday night of the tournament like they did one year. Now, that was a mess.

But, the fields are meant to be used for softball......mens, co-ed, womens, etc...
