Core training, when to start???

This is for some of you super addictive members that may have more knowledge on the topic than me. Is 11 or 12 too early to begin core training? my dd is excited to begin but i dont want a 4 foot 18 year old because she started training too early.

11 or 12 is a good time to start core training. Don't over do it because you are excited though. Keep it simple at first and do what is going to benefit her without wearing her out. Remember, repititions tone you and build strength, maxing out on weight will bulk you and slow you down.

Total myth. Heavy weights, low reps build power, speed, and explosion. At an appropriate age, core training should be in the 5-15 rep range with appropriate resistance. Other weight training exercises should be in the 3-8 rep range with appropriate loads. Most females will not be able to "bulk" anyway. We have to get past theses myths so that the sport can continue to progress.

And yes dad, it is fine to start training at that age. Focus on bodyweight exercises and perfecting her technique.

Well I did say MOST females. Most women do not produce enough testosterone to "bulk." Those who do build more muscle mass easily typically have higher levels of testosterone. Many of the bodybuilding females are not natural--they are using PED's and cannot be included in this discussion.

For every 50 women you show me who are "bulky," in your opinion, I will show you a thousand women who weight train who are muscular yet well-proportioned.

And again, I can site thousands of research articles that show that the optimal training for athletic performance is with near maximal loads in the low rep range.

All you have to do is look at MLB during the steroid issue to see the results of strength training. PED's were not just used for recovery. They were used to build power and explosion. I don't think those guys were "bulky and slow."

Naturally; everyone should consult your physician prior to starting a training program. We started our DD with BEAT training at age 12 mainly for weight management.
After a few weeks she really got into it and the results were noticeable. The training staff did a great job with age specific education on proper work out techniques, nutrition etc for the female athlete.
She was powerful before but; over the last three years she has improved her strength in all areas as well as injury prevention/recovery etc. I would recommend BEAT or Adreniline to start out with and once you have the nutrition/workout routine down you can go out on your own.

The most famous steroid guys were all bulky and slow. mcgwire, manny, bonds, clemmins. If you have a big frame "like these guys you better hit for power and pitch in the American league, it takes a long time to haul those huge heads from home to home... Oops, i just hijacked my own thread.

Why did Clemons' performance on the mound continue to improve as he got older?? Because he was bulky???

Those guys were all powerful. Speed wise, none of those guys were fast to begin with except Bonds. Personally, I think he got a bit slower because his knees weren't able to handle the stress of the added body weight as he got older.

You are those guys only cared about hitting home runs. But a proper strength training program will increase power and speed. Obviously juicing isn't part of an appropriate program.

Met Mark Mcgwire the night he hit the Bud sign at the jake. He had a polo shirt on and when i shook his hand his foreamrs were the size of 2 liter bottles. He was very bulky from the belt line up.

I prefer the term jacked ;) Whenever people hear bulk, they think slow. More muscle does not automatically = less speed. That's part of the myth I am trying to dispel. Plus, I get girls at the college level who are afraid to lift weights because they don't want to get "bulky." These myths make my job tougher.

btw, Ricky Henderson was another guy who was and still is pretty "jacked."

Quite the charmer aren't you?? :lmao::lmao: I started weight training when I was in high school and continued into college. I was a farm kid though, and I did alot of hard work when I was young and was always a strong kid.
