They didn't cancel everything - just 10U, 12U, and 14U Loser brackets. Think if they would have got a few more games scheduled in Friday and Saturday instead of spreading them out so much - could have got most of it in. We played 8:00 Sat morning and not again until 7:30 Sat Night. ;&

We were at pickerington today and it was cancelled. As I was walking out-what did I see but tarps at every field. Mind you not on the fields-just rolled up next to them. Huh? Not enough staff to help out? Hope that is not the answer. I have been at many tourneys during rain delays. To get the games back on-coaches, parents, and even players have been on fields to get them back in shape. Tarps there, but not on the fields. confusing to me really.

horrible for you guys to not be able to finish a showcase weekend though. I would be very upset if my team was there.

Dan Drees doesn't let anyone touch the tarps unless they are a "gold" member of the Pick central booster club! lucky you didn't play at "our plumbing is too good for outside crappers so we have port-a-pukes" Pick north!

Statman-that sounds nasty. Guess I can count my blessings. I feel bad for you all that was at GAPPS. a lot of money for random cancels. Dan needs more "gold" members then-Many parents have rolled tarps if they have been in travel for any length of time. I understand the money invested in the tarps, but they are there-use them. Sounds like a control issue to me. Makes sense though, a lot of coaches/ADs are like that with the expensive equiptment. Train more people if you are going to let others use the fields.JMHO

i was informed that the tourney was cancelled. if you have to shorten it thats the way you do it. we were in the 12u losers bracket. we needed to be inthe winners bracket. not the td's fault we lost.

Back to GAPSS, here is what I posted on the GAPSS bracketing thread, which morphed into a rain cancellation thread:

Time to make the popcorn. But I'm more than willing to let Mike provide his explanation before I decide whether the decision to cancel 16 and 18s in their entirety was just to save money.

We really can't have too much of a gripe about the cancellation of the 14U Loser's Bracket, except that once the decision was made to cancel the much larger 16/18 field, it may well have been possible to get enough fields playable to have a complete playout of the 14U draw. But, on the other hand, Mike's Lasers Black were one of the teams who were in the losers' bracket, so it's not like his team benefited from the decision.

Just really sorry that the rain messed everything up. There were some really good teams left in the field at 14U and it would have been fun to see who would have won it all.

A shout-out to Madness Black, whom we were playing when the heavens opened this morning. Score was 0-0 in the top of the third (at least I think it was the top of the third). Anyway, Madness Coaching Staff was really fun. And guys, your secret is safe with us.;&:D

I would hope that people remember the saying about walking a mile in someone elses shoes before totally roasting those involved in the decision. I was not there this weekend so have no special insight to anything that happened. Also I believe that it is common for most college coaches to have seen who they wanted to see on the opening day/days of a showcase tournment.

Why would you completely cancel the 16-18u's and then feel the need to play the 10,12, 14's of a supposed college SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT???

Ok --you have a couple fields ready for play by 1pm --thats has to be correct since final scores are rolling in for 10,12 and 14u (thats 3 playable fields at a minimum) so we are to led to believe 4 more fields could not have been made ready by about 2pm ( i guess the rain quit 3 hours ago ??? someone can correct me if wrong) . at 3pm the field that the 12u and 10u final was played on was open . some games should have been played today in the 16-18u field. take the best 8 won-loss records or best 16 , play 3-4 rounds at 1;15 drop dead and live with it . better than no play at all.

really frustrating , I'm sure for all involved. MD

So could you say the sheer size of Gapps makes it extremely hard to reorganize it on the fly?
