I would like to take a momemt and thank the former GAPSS Management Team: Mike Flanagan, Dan Fehrenbach and John Hatfield for their formation of the GAPSS tournament and their seven years of service to the tournament, the HS softball programs of Olentangy and the softball community as a whole.

At the same time, I am pleased to announce and welcome the next generation of the GAPSS Management Team:

Just wanted to say thank you to all the teams and organizations who makes GAPSS a success. When I started the tourney back in 2003, many many organizations were so loyal to GAPSS, and have remained so thruout the 7 years of existence. While I am sure we make mistakes along the trail, we always try to put on a good show for everyone.

The tournament is in very capable hands with Mike Wilson, as he has shown the last 4 years. I am confident the people he has in place will carry on the GAPSS tradition. It is time for us 3 to move on; running a tournament is tons, and i mean, tons of work. Until you run one, no one can ever appreciate how much time these tourneys take.

Again, thanks to all OFC'ers for the past 7 years and I am sure GAPSS will continue to be a place where you would like to take your team.

To all the trny directors and little people behind the scenes that make this wonderful trny go off without a hitch, even during the rain that seems to fall every year, best of luck and look forward to seeing you in the upcoming years!

Thanks parrot,

By my calculations, GAPSS has used over 1,200 bags of diamond dry thru out the years. It is always an interesting forecast, but Wilson has promised great weather for July 22-24, 2011.

Tournament Date - July 15-17, 2011 (DATE CHANGE)

For the 2011 tournament, we have made some changes to improve the showcase quality and experience of our tournament for the teams, spectators and college coaches.

At 16u/18u we will once again run a combined age group tournament, but for 2011 we have:
  • Decreased the number of teams to 48 to showcase an improved quality of play in all games.
  • Increased the 'no new inning' time limit to 1 hour 30 minutes for more game time and college exposure.
  • Increased the game guarantee to 5 games - 4 scheduled showcase games on Friday and Saturday and then each team will be entered into the single elimination tournament
  • Centrally located all fields to within .75 mile of each other to reduce travel time for teams, spectators and college coaches
  • Utilize a 'blind draw' for establishing the single elimination tournament brackets. This will allows coaches to focus on showcasing their players talents without the concern of losing a pool play game and impacting their bracket seeding. The blind draw will occur on Friday afternoon at the Liberty Park 16u/18u headquarters.
At 10u/12u/14u the format will remains the same as previous years, 4 GG with 2 pool play games and seeding into double elimination bracket play.

The entry fee for the 2011 tournament will be $550.00 per team @ 18u/16u and $500.00 per team @ 14u, 12u, & c10u.

The 2011 tournament will consist of teams that were selected by the GAPSS Tournament Committee based on their application. Please download the 2011 GAPSS Application Form at www.gapss.org, fill it out with as much information as possible to help us make the best possible choice when selecting teams, and mail it in with your entry fee.

Key dates:
  • January 1, 2011 - No later date all applications/fees must be received by
  • January 15, 2011 - No later date teams will be notified of the GAPSS tournament status
We look forward to a great 2011 tournament. If you have any questions, please don?t hesitate to email me at td@gapss.org

Thanks Doug. Every change made was as a result of feedback from participating team coaches or follow up discussions with the college coaches. We hope it continues to enhance everyone's experience at GAPSS.

A question was raised regarding the pitching distance at 14u and whether current college players are eligible to play at GAPSS.

The pitching distance for the 14u division will be whatever ASA decides during their fall/winter meeting. We are awaiting the decision.

College players (deemed to be any D1, D2, D3 or NAIA college rostered player) whether active or red shirted are NOT ELIGIBLE to play at GAPSS. A rostered junior college player is eligible.

Sent the following email to college coaches in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Received several email back with positive feedback. Should be another well attended tournament.

Dear Coach:

GAPSS 2010 was the most well-attended tournament by college coaches in our history with over 50 coaches in attendance. If you or your staff was able to attend, THANK YOU very much for your patronage. If not, you missed some great softball and very talented players.

In 2011, we will once again hold the GAPSS tournament in the Lewis Center/Powell area of southern Delaware county (just north of Columbus, Ohio) on July 22-24, 2011.

I am especially pleased to announce some of the changes we have made in support of you – the college coach. We are:

  • Combining the 16u and 18u age groups into one ‘super group’

  • Decreasing the number of teams to 48 to showcase an improved quality of play in all games

  • Centrally locating all games to within .75 mile of each other to reduce your travel time

  • Increasing the 'no new inning' time limit to 1 hour 30 minutes for more evaluation time

  • Increasing the game guarantee to 5 games - 4 scheduled showcase games on Friday and Saturday and then each team will be entered into the single elimination tournament

  • Utilizing a 'blind draw' for establishing the single elimination tournament brackets. This will allows travel coaches to focus on showcasing their players talents without the concern of losing a pool play game and impacting their bracket seeding

  • Providing colored wrist bands to all players participating in the 16u/18u age group. Each wrist band color will denote a high school graduation year

  • Preventing current college players from playing in the tournament
Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us in 2011.

After reading the list of changes, if you have any other ideas or suggestions for how we could make the tournament more rewarding for you – please don’t hesitate to drop me an email.

Thanks,
Mike Wilson

After a great deal of consideration, the GAPSS Tournament Committee has made the decision to change the date of the GAPSS tournament from July 22-24 to July 15-17 (we moved up one week).

This decision was made to ensure we continue to attract the highest quality teams possible for this showcase event – something we were finding it difficult to do on the July 22-24 weekend due to conflicts with individual player all-star events and national tournament events.

As a result of this change we are going to extend the application deadline from 12/31/2010 to 1/31/2011 with team selection announcements occurring by 2/18/2011.

I apologize for any inconvenience this change will cause, but I believe that based on the coaches I have spoken to, the ones who could not attend but now will, this decision will lead to a more highly competitive and rewarding tournament for everyone involved.
