every single organization in lake county is looking for players at every age group.all of them will take any girl that can stand up. some coaches have stripped the teams to start other teams. i didn't think it could get worse. most teams in lake county would have a hard time winning even if they played down in tournaments. and some organizations are still going to charge +-800 dollars to play. if any girl in lake county still without a team. turn around and run as fast as you can.

About a dozen girls have gone West and South just to play 10U and 11U !

I've talked to several parents here on the OFC that this year, are looking at a two hour drive to practice (at age 12/13) just because the teams in their own back yard have become watered down.

My DD an I have made the move. We're looking at an hour each way, and she's loving every minute of it so far, and she's 9!

I may be wrong, but I think longball's point was that many of the teams in Lake County are watered down and that in order to play after 9:30 on Sunday they made a move to get on a better team where they had to drive a little further ... same thing I did as a coach and same thing I think you were doing in the past with your daughter, right? Hopefully your venture with a new team in the county will allow you to be able to play late on Sunday ... will be anxious to hear next summer how that went for you ...

Longball, Hope all goes well but if it does not give the Sunraze a call. We have solid 10u Team moving forward and will work the pieces together this fall. Currently the Roster sits at 10.
The Sunraze will have 10u,2-12u, 14u, 2-16u. Our Rosters are set but looking for some relief help in case of injuries or illnesses.
We currently Staff College and High School Coaches in all age groups.

I am glad you asked, Wizards, as I almost forgot about. I'm from Lake County/NEO and would love to see the level of travel ball from this area improve, but haven't run into any teams from this organization in the tourneys we've entered across the state, or even seen them mentioned in scores on here. Did the effort fall apart or have we just somehow missed you?

you have to recruit the best girl(s) on any given team. build your team around top level pitching. but most of all the parents have to be on board. ready to be dedicated to fp. every sport is year round . my dd plays vb 8/9 months out of the year. we can juggle both. longball did you win your tournament yesterday?

Agree. But I want to go one step further and add that you need to recruit good coaching. You are only as strong as your weekest player. And only as strong as the coaching around you. A good coaching staff includes a good Manager, good assistants and good instruction. I've seen too many teams with talent fall apart because of the lack of coaching skills and the lack of instruction.

Not part of Ohio Energy, just one that made the move!

At the halfway point for my DD, and things are going very well. We've been up against some of the best in the state so far, and have hung in there with such a young team. That, and playing in the Semi's and Finals the last few weeks have shown our progress. The true test will be the Fireworks frenzy, and Stingrays the next couple of weeks! We're putting these girls with the best, not only for the experience, but to make them better as players as well.

Longball ... glad things are going well! What age is your DD, and what other age groups does the organization have?

My DD is at 10U, but not part of Ohio Energy. We made the move an hour from Lake County. We are happy at the moment :)

Ahhh OK ... I see you added that now in your post above. Sometimes it is necessary for families to travel a little further to be on teams where the girls can develop more ... and not just coming out of Lake County. Am still curious as to what happened with Ohio Energy though ...

whats up with the nasty comments taking shots at the northeast ohio teams on post #58? I agree that the teams in this area are for sure weaker than the lasers, Hawks organizations from down south but definately dont agree that a team from kids in this area would have NO chance of competing at their level. Im not sure about the teams close to the lake but i can tell you the teams from the warren, niles, cortland area could certainly provide enough stud players to make it happen. Long story short, the talent is here and as mentioned earlier...these "A" level players are spread out on several different teams within a 40 mile radius.

My honest opinion would be to approach one of the established organizations in the area and present them with the idea of putting together an "A" team that could compete down south or at the "A" level tournaments. I believe it could happen and would love to see it.

by the way, most of the tryouts Ive seen in the northeast Ohio area only have 20-30 kids in an age group even show up to tryout so the choices are limited. top organizations like the lasers probably get 10 times the amount of kids to build their teams. wouldnt be that hard to build a competative team with that many kids to pick from would it?

I'm sorry it's time for me to step in...

I was the coach of the 12U Northern Ohio Softball. I moved the team to the Ohio Hurricanes. We traveled to play the "powerhouse" southern teams. We have done very well. It is a team of girls that I have had since 10 U. Well most of them. We have played teams like the Diamond Chix and beat them and lost to them. We have played the Ohio Hawks Kepple team and very good team and beat them. We have the Stingrays and Beat them. Played the Lady Lasers Purple 2 times first time tied them 1 - 1 after 7 innigs and the second time lost 2 - 0 two awesome games. The list of teams continues that we have traveled to play and in turn teams like the Ohio Classics traved up to Youngstown just play us.

So stop bashing Northeast Ohio when it comes to softball and Stop bashing Lake County. Oh yeah did I forget to mention we also quailified for the ASA/USA in Moline. Ill. So with the right families and the right style of coaching you can move mountains. We have done it.

Regardless of where you are from if you teach them how to play and understand the game the wins take care of them self.

So stop bashing what you don't know or understand.

Coach Burk,
You are right. There are good teams in all the areas from the state. I am from SW Ohio and there are a few very quality teams and there are many more average teams. So far I have seen many quality teams from the NE part of Ohio. Ice Orange, Thunder Elite, NOS (Hurricanes) are a few off the top of my head (Sorry if I left some out). This appears to be a case of the grass is always greener on the other side.
