All contracts are only one year at a time. I agree with Passion, I just started expecting it. The only thing that bothered me is when the coach of the other team tells the player that if she comes to his/her team, then the player won't have to pay fees.

that's on them. Fees are fees. I can see a scholarship portion for families that need it but not for an athlete that doesn't need it. They may not have to pay fees but they have to do a lot of fundraising to cover their portion. Lol. How is that fair to all the other athletes and families that pay?

Meemerthe baby... you’re not going to get any support here. You’re talking about a great guy who coached my daughter for several years. He is one of few doing this for the right reasons. I’ve seen him make countless personal sacrifices for the kids he coaches. His Lasers team probably embarrassed you and you feel somewhat satisfied by taking a shot at someone you don’t know. I’m curious... was it a player he knows? What did you have to say when this happened?

First off, Chris Lucas is a friend of mine and someone I respect as a Coach!! From talking with him, I do not believe anything unethical was intended.

I was at the same Friendly in Pickerington where Chris’s Team was playing, and Chris approached me Sunday about this incident and asked for my opinion.

As always, I was honest and shared that I would never cross that line. I explained that the Dugout is a Coach/Players sanctuary and no one outside THE TEAM should ever enter. I went on to say that this is not a good look, and shared that I sometimes won’t even Coach 3rd, cause I don’t want to be close to the enemy.

I know if another Coach or anyone from outside of our Coaches/Players...entered our Lasers Orange, White, Green and now Teal Dugout/Sanctuary, I would be pissed, and I would address it right then and there!!

So I can completely understand the opposing Coach being upset, but in my opinion, he should be straight up honest and address it then and there with Chris. Not come on OFC, because it sounds like one is seeking the Court of Public Opinion, with an underlying agenda.

Again, this is just my personal opinion and as everyone already knows...I’m not very Politically Correct anyways...LMAO. So I will leave Y’all with a favorite song...Why Can’t We Be Friends

Don’t be upset a coach try’s to recruit one of ur players. Be flattered. Just means you are doing something right. If they decline an offer that really means ur doing something right. Never hold an athlete back. If she feels it’s better elsewhere let her go find out. I am sure Chris meant no harm talking to one of ur players.
Not sure I agree with you here. As a coach, you are always "recruiting" your own players. You want to make their experience with you a positive experience so they want to come back the following year. Exposing them to every shyster out there trying to form or improve their team is no reason to be flattered. It is not holding an athlete back by trying to keep them on your team. If an athlete wants to explore other teams, there are plenty of opportunities. No reason to be a gracious host to someone trying to disrupt your program.

This reminds me of a kid we had in baseball a few years back at 10U. We had him on the right track, becoming an excellent pitcher. A great recruiter and awful coach struck up a conversation with his Mom and soon he was signed away. Couple years later played that team and the kid made no progress. Ended up dropping out of baseball at 14U. Could have been a state champ in HS if that slick coach never made that first contact.

Recruiting is the dirty underbelly of youth sports.

@Tallmadge Force Gold I probably should of worded it a little different. Yes I agree you always want to keep them on your team for years to come.

The point to all this is this... Everyone that knows Chris knows he was just talking to one of his ok’d players. Now I will say I agree with Lee. The opposing teams Dugout is a No No. maybe go to the fence but not inside their dugout. I have talked with Chris and he didn’t mean any disrespect about it. Didn’t even think he was being disrespectful. After all it was at a “Friendly”.
We are all here for the same thing hopefully. Sharpen their skill set, Help these girls achieve their dreams and get some extra scholarship money for college.

We could have @CoachLucas get on here and air it out.

There was no "opposing team dugout." It was an "all-star event" with teams comprised of girls from multiple different teams. Are you suggesting this wasn't the case???

I am a long way from being an insecure coach. For those that watched game changer and think that's any indication of what was played are smoking crack. I sure don't coach friendlies like I do bracket play. Friendlies are meant to work on things my girls need to develop. Just for the record he has never coached any girls that are in my dugout. I know where all my girls came from and who their previous coaches were. As far addressing it right then, I felt it was not necessary to disrupt my team for his inconsiderate. And to add to this nonsense, players are not even allowed to shake hands after games, how can you possibly believe entering someone else dugout is ok. I will say he made 2 of my girls uncomfortable and I will leave it at that.

I’m not trying to be funny, but someone mentioned this was just a Friendly??? We played 3 games Saturday against Lasers Red, Cincy Doom and Lasers Orange. I’ve known, like and respect all 3 of these Coaches...If I said 2 words to them during our games Saturday...that would be on the high side.

Friendly? I’ve never coached a single Friendly game in my life...every game is an elimination game, always has and always will!!

Now don’t get me wrong...I will Bat all 13 every game I can, and I started 4 different Pitchers In the first 4 games this past weekend...

But a Friendly... Naw, I’ve never coached in one!!

Well this post isn't going away. Not an eloquent speaker or writer but will make an attempt to clear the air.

Covid mentioned.I respect anyone with a mask and will give them space but will continue to shake hands of umps, coaches and parents that reciprocate, doubt I'm the only one.

Pyles made a good point. It isn't 1995,2005 or 2015.This day and age it does make sense to avoid another teams dugout.Being my 3rd time through the age groups I have met many coaches and players and am just cordial and friendly...however dont put yourself in that situation especially toward a coach/team that doesnt know you.Ive coached junior high, travel for 18 years and have a HS program and being a Male coach I feel I always carry myself appropriately....but again,in this day and age dont put yourself in that situation, especially with people that dont know you.

More clarity of incident.
Team I was playing,I went to give lineup card and instead of making him drop what he was doing,I just went and handed him lineup card, error on me walking into dugout.

Player I said hi to DID play for us,checkout our Instagram page from 2018/2019 season.I hung out with the dad during games this weekend just like I always do when I see them. Many know player/the dad and when she played for us and the team she played with before us.We did part ways not seeing eye to eye but we're friends again and that's it.
No need for me to put names and numbers out there.

Said player was sitting with another I could have swore filled in with us 2 years ago, assistant agreed. She was a player that had multiple acl/mcl issues and I asked if she was healthy.Next inning one of our players clarified that isn't the girl that filled in.Next inning I apologized to player that I thought she was someone else.

I'm not calling/texting our poaching any of his players and never have...but I do chat at tournaments with said player and dad whenever we see each other. If that needs to change, tell the dad he isn't allowed to talk to me.

Coach approached our Org leader at friendlies.Im harmless, anyone can approach me if they have have an issue with me,I'm not an alpha Male so anyone could put me in my place if they feel need be.But also can agree with the coach on not approaching me,could call me later, I dont think there would be the right place with kids/families around and said coach not knowing me he wouldn't know my reaction

Social media not the place fornthis and it never should have gotten here.

Right. And saying hi to a former player in a dugout can be misconstrued as a inappropriate recruiting tactic, lesson learned.

So instead of going to the source or organization, you choose to do it like this, the wrong way...And its shot you in the ass...Next time leave social media out of it and man up and talk it out to the person or organization....

no offense to anyone but it’s gonna get worse with the crybabies as we will soon be seeing coaches who was born in the late 90s, & 2000. Damn that makes me feel old.

These younger generations need to toughen up and handle business. You have a problem with someone then address the issue. Don’t go being a keyboard warrior. Talk it out with them face to face with respect. always respect your elders.
