10u coach tossing players mid-season

I agree with Klump. I would guess since this is 10u that alot of players and parents are getting their first experience in travel ball. Some may expect their customary 2 innings in the field and one at bat per game. I have yet to see a coach at any level that wouldn't put their best team on the field on Sunday and with the weather heating up I would guess 9 & 10 year olds don't have the stamina to play 3-4 games in one day at ANY position. Talk to your coach see what his intentions were and see if there is anything you need to work on with your DD to make sure she gets as many innings as possible. Complaining on message boards will only make things worse for you, your dd, and most importantly your TEAM!

It would be my guess that it you be your dd that is on the bench or
you have the fear that she will be benched. Sounds to me that you
know what direction and you are pointing the finger at the coach.
Try this on for size, go outside and work with your dd. Air conditioning
is nice, but work is work.....

We tell all parents that we will carry 12 players .. once the 12th player is rostered we will go with those girls until the season ends. I tell our coaches to be sure you have the 12 players you want all season, if they choose to idle at 11 or even 10 I am fine with that. But, we do not want to toss a kid and family aside just for a few more wins. As a coach you have to be sure you 'want' the players you roster - if you add a girl and she is not 'getting it done' it is up to you to train her up. But we tell all parents that the 12th girl added may upset the 'nature' of things and bump the line up around - our goal is to have the BEST 12 players we can and let them earn their spots from there...

We played against a team a few years ago that brought on 3 players the last two weeks and sat the girls they replaced - all to try and get a WS bid ... 2 of those kids lost all interest in softball after that and still are not playing...

Well said, Doug. We assemble our team in September and commit to that group right then with twice-a-week practices beginning immediately thereafter.

I see our job at this level as teaching, teaching, teaching - not win at all costs. We also have a responsibility to foster a lifelong interest in the game. We would consider it a failure if we doused that in any way to win a game or qualify for a tournament.

We just ran into a rash of injuries and schedule conflicts, but stayed the course with the girls we had remaining. Was it a tough stretch? Sure. But we maintained our chemistry and our younger girls stepped up. I know that our program will be better in the long run.

We "graduate" 11 girls to the 12U level next season. This is a special group of girls and a great set of parents. This group could be together for eight years. We consider this to be precious and something that should be guarded.

my dd team did this, only with no complaints from ANY parent. it's a fact of travel softball (no coach will ever admit it). whether you like the decisions the coach is making or not, you signed up. you don't like the choices by the coach - well, it's like a job. you dont' like the boss, you find a new job.

Well said sleeper. Whoever said winning isn't everything is a loser.
If a team is getting beat week in and week out people point the
finger at the coaches. Win week in and week out and everyone is happy.
I have seen teams roster change 3 or more times a year. My dd was and
has been affected by this as well. Yet she overcame this, and made her want
to work harder to play. I have no problem with a coach bring in stronger
players, it only makes the rest work harder. This is not rec ball. Take a long
look at some of the teams out there. There is a gold team out there that is
amazing. If a new kid moved in the area do you think that team would let
the kid get away??????? Think about it.
