how many teams are planning on going to both NSA state tourney and the NSA natl's in Col. You do have to play in the states to go to the natl's right ? MD

If you played at an "alternate state" site, like the winter Spano Tourney, you would not have to play at states. I know we played in the Spano Tourney and are choosing to play GAPPS over States this year.

How many alternate state events are there ? I guess you have to check the fine print of each tourney to see just what it qualifies you for . Also --do you have to win or place high in a qualifier to get a berth in the natl's. I guess I need a tuturial on the process. MD

I'll take a stab at this, although there are many more knowledgable on this site. If you win a tourney you get a berth. If you are runner up to a team who has a berth, you get the berth from that tourney. If you finish third in a tourney where 1st and 2nd have berths, you get a berth. This is my understanding. I'm sure someone will provide more insight.

PS, if I'm wrong, be gentle. :D

PSS, I'm not sure how you find out which sites are alternate state.

Each sanctioning body is different, but I can give you the "skinny" on NSA since that seems to be what you're asking for based on your first post.

There was only one alternate state and it was announce VERY late - it was the Spano Dome tournament in February. If you attended that, and you qualify (or have already qualified) for NSA nationals, then you do not have to go to NSA states at Tealtown to maintain your berth.

In order to qualify for NSA nationals, it is rather easy. Not to knock anyone who goes to NSA nationals as we have teams that do and I'm sure my team will go again at some point, but it's extremely watered down IMO. If you attend enough tournaments, you will eventually get a berth for NSA nationals. Why? Because initially you have to place in first or second in most tournaments to get a berth (one berth for every four teams entered for NSA) - but after that - if the first two teams have already qualified, the berths pass down. So, by the end of summer at the NSA national qualifiers, you have last place teams in the tournaments being awarded berths to Nationals.

Once you qualify you then have to attend states to "keep" your berth.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Marie
