In the Silver bracket at the Madriver Clasic......

#3 seed SDS over #6 seed Miami Explosion
#4 seed West Liberty Force over #5 seed Sabotage
#3 seed SDS over #2 seed Ohio Danger
#1 seed Ohio Wave over #4 seed West Liberty Force
#3 seed SDS over #1 seed Ohio Wave in Championship

First, thanks to the entire West Liberty Guys for getting the fields ready to play in all the rain we had. Only having to cancel 1 pool game and not having to shorten any time limits. You guys did a great job!

Second, thanks to the Ohio Wave for a great championship game. You have some very talented players with some big sticks. We look forward to seeing you guys again this summer.

Third, thanks to all the SDS players. After getting our butts kicked in the very first pool game Saturday, we played solid defense the rest of the tournament. Our girls did not give up a run the remaining 4 games. I'm very proud of how our girls responded to coaches.

I understand that with the weather, you have to play with the cards dealt. However, I do wish that after the rain and the 3rd pool game was cancelled, it would have been nice for all teams to have been put into 1 bracket. Just gives you no room for error when games get cancelled and unforunatly we had 1 bad game. We really would have liked to have had the chance to compete with teams that were in the gold bracket. After only 2 games with 20 teams, i'm not even sure how the teams did to get divided into the brackets. Was there 8 teams that went 2-0 in the pool games?

Regardless, congrats to our SDS girls for going 4-1 on the weekend with 4 shutouts!!!!

I agree. Thats alot of money for just 3 games. Can't control the weather, but one bad game in a single elimination bracket.

Yes congrts on a great weekend.
As far as putting all teams into 1 bracket it would have been next to impossible with 20 14u teams especially after the rain Sunday morning. The top 8 teams had 6 teams 2-0 and 2 1-1 teams and it came down to runs allowed or runs scored.

I know that no one likes to short teams games, and I dont like to either but with the weather some things can't be helped. At $325 for a National Qualifier and still being able to get at least 3 games in is not bad after all it was only a 4gg tournament (weather permitting) so losing 1 is not the worst that could have happened.
Again sorry that I cant control the weather but i still think i worked out the best it could.

Mitch, you guys did an outstanding job on the fields. Mother Nature thought she had you guys but you took one on the chin and keep on fighting. I'm sure every team that played this weekend in West Liberty thanks you guys. After the rain in and out all day Saturday and then the big one on Sunday morning, I was doubtful that you could pull it off. Again, GREAT JOB!!!!!!

Thanks Chris!!

First of all thanks to everyone who participated in the Madriver Classic and for being understanding with the weather. I hope everyone still had a great time and will consider this tournament again in the future.
I will get all results posted asap after I talk with a few members of our staff who help to make sure everthing is correct. With oldest daughter in Akron playing for a State Championship in D3 (finished runners-up)I was not able to post scores as I would like to. So please bare with me as I will get them on here as soon as possible.
Thanks Agian

That is not exactly how it happened. It was seven 2-0 teams. With three scheduled pool games the first tie-breaker was Runs Allowed. Both us and the Cincy Storm went 1-1 we gave up 6 and the Storm gave up 7. It was decided that since games got canceled the first tie breaker went out the window and it was decided to use head to head instead. Storm beat us head to head so they went. A HoO Bombers parent said I should raise more of a stink about changing the rules in mid tournament. BUT, considering we layed an egg in the Storm game, and it was a storm game with some pretty good rain, and they did beat us head-to-head and the schedules were already made out and teams gone for night, and Mitch was fighting mother nature, I didn't want to raise another ugly issue for him. I understand that having recently had to deal with canceled games at our tournament, parents not so much. Overall, nice tournament. I like Lions Park with the camping and facilities and nice park area. Dodge fields, not my favorite. Wouldn't have any issues going back to West Liberty.

Just so its correct it was 6 teams 2-0
Event Results
Team Wins Losses Ties Win Pct PF PA
Heart of Ohio Bombers 2 0 0 1.00 14
Ohio Swarm 2 0 0 1.00 15 1
Lady Charmers 2 0 0 1.00 17 3
Dublin Greenjackets 2 0 0 1.00 15 3
Tri County Thunder 2 0 0 1.00 6 4
Cross County Cannons 2 0 0 1.00 10 5
Marion Merchants Black 1 0 1 .75 11 7
Ohio Wave 1 1 0 .50 13 6
Cincy Storm 1 1 0 .50 7 7
the next team 1-0-1 and then Wave and Storm 1-1 and it wasnt like I total did something off the wall by using head to head in that situation. Just felt it was the right thing to do if thats wrong I'm sorry I in no way was trying to put anyone out of where they should be. I hope everyone understands. We all know that at some point in time in a rain shortened tournament someone is going to fell like they have been pentalized. Again sorry for any confusion.
As far as Dodge is there anything we can do make it a better place to play?
As far as ugly situtions yes there were a few of which I apoligized for and tried to explain to the best of my ability. Some of which should have never happened and wish I could change. I hope that I learn from my mistakes and it helps make the Madriver Classic a better tourney.

Like I said before, the only thing I hated was that after the cancelling of the final pool game, all teams were still divided into 3 seperate pools. This basically says, unless you won your first 2 pool games, you have very little to no shot at playing in the Gold bracket. The fact is... in bracket play, there were 3 teams that finished undefeated. Gold bracket winner (Lady Charmers), Silver bracket winner (SDS) and whoever won the Bronze bracket. IMO, everything else is a mute point. Maybe these 3 teams should have gotten a shot at the final Championship.

Again, I think Mitch and gang did an outstanding job. We enjoy playing in West Liberty and as always, will look forward to coming back next year.

Mitch, I understand what you did, and to be honest, if I was the Cincy Storm I would be a little miffed myself watching a team with the same record going into the gold bracket after we just beat them. We didn't take care of business so we have no one to blame but ourselves. No hard feelings from me. I still enjoyed the tournament. I would recommend it.

As far as dodge, it's just not as nice as Lions plus nobody likes porta-johns, especially when a whacked-out parent tries to push it over with you in it and someone who I thought I knew *coughcshiltcough* just stood around and watched.

I'm innocent ;& since I was at the other field scouting out our opponent, but I did hear about it. :lmao: I just want to know how much blue stuff you got on you.

Mitch,
You can't please every team or coach. Sounds like you did a fantastic job with your plan "B". Whenever a team loses a pool play game they have the risk of not playing for the "championship". See you later this summer with a class organization!
