Good question....We had over 100 kids over 2 days of tryouts for 12U,14U,16U & 18U and only 1 player tryout for 18U...

It seems that after 16U most of the players decide how much softball plays into their future.

My experience has been that most 18Over/23U teams don't form until mid May once their collegiate season is over. While a lot of players today may say that they will play next year, that often changes after the player has gone through a long spring season. They simply want a break. When they do play, they don't want to spend every weekend playing and teams often don't get enough players to commit to any specific weekends. Even after commitments have been made, players will drop out, often leaving their teammates struggling to find a replacement.

When they do have enough for a team, the 18U/23U tournaments are great--the parents are great, the players don't get upset over losing or making physical errors, they realize the umpires are out there trying to do their best but that do make occasional mistakes (when this happens they just give the ump a look of disbelief--this is more effective than arguing).

The Cincinnati Elite used to have a 23U team. Don't know if they still do or not.

Chris,
Crystl told me Monday she is adding an 18 and over team to the Bustos Ultimates. Jenni Meier (MUM coach) is going to work with her to get it going. I will have her email you and let you know where they are on that.

Sixshootermom,

Let me know, I know a girl that is 22 and she just ask me the other day. She catches her sister during pitching lessons. She looks like a stud player.

Just a friendly reminder that Miami U. & Xavier U. both have club teams which play Fall & Spring games.

Are there any opportunities for indoor Winter leagues in SW Ohio for these teams to participate?

The Ohio Dragons have 18 over teams that only play in 4 to 5 tournaments during the summer. You can contact the Dragons if you or anyone else is interested in tryouts for the 2009 season at OhioDragons@aol.com

Thanks
