This years inaugural version of the Columbus NSA Fast-Pitch Early-Bird will be held on May 13-14,2006 at Berliner Park in Columbus. The complex is located off of I-71 at exit 105, just south of downtown Columbus.
The age groups are 10-u,12-u, & 14-u. There will be a 12 team limit in each division. Tournament will feature 3 game pool-play, then seeding into a single elimination championship bracket. Please enter early so we can determine if the 10-U bracket will make. We will run the 10-u bracket with as few as 4 teams so those teams can play for the world berth for Columbus later in the summer.
The tournament is a NSA World Series qualifier for Columbus, OH and E.Peoria, IL. There will be 1 berth for every 4 teams entered in each age group. Entry fee is $300 with the cut-off for entry May 3,2006. Follow this link: www.columbusnsa.com/earlybirdfastpitch2006infopage.html for more tournament information and to download a flyer/registration form.
We are also looking for ideas for this event in the future. Our tournament committee put this early date together with the idea of having a spring "learning" style of tournament.
I myself would like to see the less-experienced(younger age group teams like a true 11-u team in the 12-u age group and a true 13-u team in 14-u) and rec teams have an early tournament with at least 4 games to get work in and give the girls a chance to experience tournament style softball without the intimidating presence of the "bigger" name teams entered. I would like to see us go to 2 brackets of 5 teams, have a 4 team pool play and bring everyone out for a second day single-elim bracket with the top team in each pool getting the byes from the first round.
Kick some of these around and please feel free to add ideas, or float ones as well.
