Division I (Box Score): After finishing as state runners-up each of the past three seasons, Elyria (29-3) claimed its second state title by defeating Hudson 10-1.

The game was scoreless through three and a half innings when the top-ranked Pioneers broke through with a six-run fourth. With two outs and two runs already in, sophomore Kristen Boros launched a grand slam to cap the scoring flurry. Elyria tacked on four more runs in the sixth, with junior Ashlee Stolarski having a two-run hit in the frame.

Senior Tess Sito hurled a two-hitter, giving up a solo home run to junior Callie Drohan in the sixth inning. After striking out 17 hitters in Elyria?s semifinal win, Sito fanned 11 Explorers in the championship game.

Eight of Elyria?s nine batters had at least one hit and scored at least one run. Stolarski was the lone Pioneer with two hits, while Boros reached base three of her four plate appearances.

Eighth-ranked Hudson, winners of the 2007 title, finished its season at 29-3.

I like Oregon Clay this year. They return 7 of 9 starters from a team that lost in 7th to Elyria in Regional.

Hudson will be in the conversation again. Lost some key players, but still a lot coming back from 2007 State Champs, 2008 Reginal finalist (10 inning versus Hoover), and 2009 State Final Runner-up team. Deep pitching. Some battle hardened newcomers ready to back fill also for some seniors that will be missed.

The 2007 State Champs won 2 games at Districts in "extra innings" though, and beat Hoover in Regionals in extra innings ... so they almost didn't make it out of District or Regional ... no guarantees, one game at a time, one pitch at a time!

Im going to guesstimate and say Upper Arlington in D-1. It won't be a back to back for Elyria though.

Boardman will be one to watch also. Tough pitcher, and a lot coming back from a 2009 regional finalist.

I will get this out of the way ,I am teays valley biased. I am central ohio biased .
That being said It would not be hard to see Teays Valley ,Hilliard, Grove City, U.A.,or Gahanna go to final two. The powers to be say it will be from up north ,But I look for one of these teams to be up there making a run for the Title . Cant wait to see how the season turns out ! Good luck to all ,Go vikes!

In the northeast corner of the state I've been told that the top teams are as follows
Perry
Jackson
Hoover
Hudson
Boardman
Don't know much bout the rest of the state, maybe someone else from other areas can pipe in.

The Tri Valley Scotties are the most underrated team in the State. I think because they just moved to D1 this year.? They have wins over Pick Central, Central Crossing, Olentangy Liberty, Marysville, Hilliard Darby, Sheridan(2), and Philo to name a few. John Glenn Muskies are a force in D2 as well. The Muskingum Valley League is strong at the top.

Agree, the MVL put 6 of the 9 teams in the district finals this year. With 2 so far moving on Tri Valley and #5 John Glenn who knocked out Philo 4-3 in the district final. Sheridan plays district final today.
