The clinics will be held on the following Mondays:
7-9 p.m. Jan. 28.
7-9 p.m. Feb. 4.
7-9 p.m. Feb. 11.
7-9 p.m. Feb. 18.
7-9 p.m. Feb. 25.
7-9 p.m. March 4.
Instructor Bob Hoiles will teach throwing, catching, fielding mechanics, pivots, bunt defense and other fundamentals in this six-week class that will emphasize Howard Kobata-style infielding skills. Gold-level 18U players will assist with instruction.
I have studied and taught Kobata's fielding style for more than a decade. My former students now play for colleges including Ohio State, Kent State and the University of Akron. Younger players have signed with Toledo, Oregon and Michigan State. My students have also played for teams with top-10 finishes at ASA USA nationals and Premier nationals.
The clinics will be split into two age groups: 8-11 and 12-15 years old. Students are required to wear mouthguards, facemasks and other safety equipment they normally wear during games.
Fees are $15 per two-hour session with advance registration or $20 at the door. Class size will be limited to facilitate individual instruction.
The Spano Dome is northeast Ohio's state-of-the-art indoor practice facility for fastpitch softball, featuring two dirt playing fields. The Spano Dome is located at 2565 Pressler Road, Akron, Ohio, 44312.
