2015 Metro Dayton ASA/USA Qualifier / College Showcase

Metro Dayton ASA will be providing both an USA/ASA National Berth and an Eastern Regional berth for the top two finishers in each age group. The 16u/18u teams will be playing in the main 5-diamond complex all weekend and under the lights, giving ample opportunities for college coaches to catch as many games as possible.

Last year we hosted 106 teams, and had approx. 40 colleges attend the event to recruit.

There will be 1 USA/ASA National Berth AND 2 ASA Eastern Regional berths awarded per age group.

Pool Play will be 1:20 - No New Inning. Bracket will be 1:40 - complete the inning, proceed to ITB. Losers/Winners bracket finals, no time limit. Play will begin at 8am Friday morning.

Straight ASA Championship rules for elimination play. Roster bat for pool play. Head coaches must present ACE certification.

The 8u teams were at the Rowe Sports Complex. A small complex with a one person, tireless facility manager that worked hard all weekend. The facility was not designed to handle 17 travel teams and all of the spectators that come to watch, but it is a nice facility that is being upgraded.
The young umpire that everyone has commented about was moved to our age group. I believe I can say that he had an immense learning experience this weekend and learned to handle coaches that may have been rough on him. His knowledge of the rules was lacking, but this umpire handled himself with a great deal of professionalism during the many rules questions/conferences that came up. He kept calm even when coaches voices were raised.
It was a great weekend to meet and get to speak with 8u and 10u coaches and parents that have the right priorities and ideas about travel ball. I witnessed great sportsmanship and inspired coaching, as well as outstanding level of play from "little girls". To me, the positive atmosphere far outweighs any negatives that might have occurred.

Action Sports not a good complex and then they scheduled baseball games at 8:30pm on Friday. We were suppose to play at 8:30pm Friday but game got moved to kettering at 9:00pm. Got the call we were moving complexes at 8:00pm while in middle of warm ups. Art van Atta not bad but needed temp HR fences. Didn't play at Delco. Not sure why Sunday 14u wasn't moved out of Action Sports and over to kettering where thy had open fields. Umps were terrible at Action Sports. Didn't even understand basic rules. One Ump wouldn't even let me use a sub as a courtesy runner. Had to be last out.
