I thought this might be something positive to start the new year! (assuming the mayans are wrong.)

What are the things that make you think "I am glad this person is in my daughter's life"?

  • I like knowing the coach is helping my kid boost her self-esteem. Not with empty words but with genuine praise served with a dose of constructive criticism. Honesty without brutality.
  • Her coaches teach her how to survive the tough times with head held high.
  • I like watching them joke back and forth.
  • I like watching her learn good leadership skills from her coaches.

I am super happy my dd chose softball and because of that we have met so many great people along this path. Every coach has made a positive impact in her life. Thanks.

10-12. I want a nurturing coach who doesn't hurt kids self esteem. Fundamentally sound softball coach.

12-14. I want a coach with softball knowledge and constantly work on drills and challenges my child.

14-18. Makes kids accountable. Showcase exposure with contacts with college coaches.

College-- I just wanted my kids to pick a college with their major and if they stopped playing they would still love the school. I also made sure coaches weren't yellers.

Also, I made sure I was at every practice and ny girls didn't mind even when they were 18u.

3 types of coaches I have observed
1. Bully Coach- yells, threatens, throws things, often gets kicked out
2. Quiet Coach- observer, teacher, explains game and reasons for decisions
3. Motivator Coach- cheers, pleasent personality, gives and thereforerecieves respect.
I likd #3, Some day I will post my thesis on which is more successful

If there is one quality that I have learned to appreciate over the last few years, it's "Communication". I love a coach that emails, calls and texts. One who is brave enough to call and say, " Look, this is what I think we need to work on with your kid, and this is what I think our game plan should be." We finally found that this year with both my DD's coaches. Two teams in two organizations this year. We are so lucky to have found coaches who communicate well.
