Here's how I find fields or any other location without a physical street address. When getting to the college fields, this method was fantastic. The GPS will take you right into the parking lot - no address needed!

Open Google maps and find the field - click on the satellite view icon in the upper right portion of the map.

Now, in the upper right area of the window (above the satellite view icon) click on the "gear" icon, which opens an options dropdown - click on Maps Labs in the menu.

Scroll down in the window that opens and enable "LatLng Marker". Scroll to bottom of the window and click the Save Changes button.

Back on your map, zoom in and hover your mouse over the exact location you want to navigate to. Right click, and select "Drop LatLng Marker".

You will get a little marker with the lattitude & longitude. Depending on your GPS (I use Garmin, and it's a breeze) enter these coordinates and save them as a favorite by field name.

You'll never get lost again!! Good luck! :)

I have suggested before that every tournament director publish their field(s) lattitude and longitude coordinates. Many times fields are out in nowhere land and have no physical street address. Decent GPS units are now less than 1/3 the price of bats, and should be a part of every summer softball road warrior's travel kit.

Even if you don't have a GPS, you can type (or cut & paste the coordinates - in the format as I listed them) into the Google Maps search field, and click the "Search Maps" button - you will get a green arrow pointing precisely to those coordinates on the map.

A street address may be OK when looking for a friend's house or a place of business, but if you REALLY want accurate results/directions to all the places that DON'T have street addresses, get used to using GPS coordinates.

Looking at the map, there's a quad of fields just southwest of the school. That would be a nice place for a tourney...

...and looking at the VE website, it lists Candlelite Knolls as the quad complex... looks like the place.

So, the coordinates of the quad = 41.28870, -80.78454 Puts you right in the parking lot just west of the fields.

I returned a Magellan GPS that I bought from Costco just because it did not have the capability of entering coordinates. Or, if it did, I was just too stupid to figure it out. :)

Ended up buying another Garmin that has the feature, and is very easy to use. As Sammy has stated, it is very useful.
