Anyone at the Field Sports Indoor League?

We just finished a fantastic winter session of indoor softball at Field Sports in central Ohio. The games were fun, the players enthusiastic and the finals featured some of the best pitching I've had a chance to see.

While umpiring games in this league, I did have a chance to meet a couple of regulars from the OFC boards, which is always a special treat.

I was just curious if any of the other OFC readers out there participated in this league. Maybe I had a chance to meet you and didn't even realize it!

Hey Bret, I was there and we had a chance to talk. Who ended up winning the league?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I'll try to give you a recap. After doing five games in one day some of the teams and scores tend to run together and things become kind of a blur! The final results should eventually be posted on the Field Sports Ohio website under the "softball" link, so you might want to check that out later in case my recollection is a bit off.

The last four games of the tournament were all won by one run. The teams were very evenly matched.

The semi final game had the Comets (Olentangy) beating the top-seeded Siver Knights (Bishop Ready) by a score of 1-0.

The championship game was also 1-0 with the Comets defeating the Patriots (Independence? I think).

The pitching was spectacular for those last two games. The Comets pitcher allowed no hits in these games, while the opposition allowed only two and also had a runner reach on an error that decided the game.

From my perspective (behind the plate!) this league was quite successful. All of the participants seemed to have a great time and should be ready to roll once the outdoor season starts next month.

Bretman, you are close but slightly off on the team names.

Olentangy Liberty [i.e. The Patriots] beat Central Crossing [i.e. The Comets] 1-0 in the final.

Liberty beat Bishop Ready 1-0 in one semi final and I believe CC beat Hilliard Davidson in the other Semi final.

Sarah Phillips pitched the last two games for Liberty and was very tough. Much of the Liberty team was made up of our incoming freshman class, and of course there was Sarah!

Patriots,

Thank you for setting me straight! ?:)

My apologies for mixing up the teams.

With all of the teams competing out there I wasn't sure if I was recalling the names correctly. When you're umpiring five games in a row, and trying to keep a neutral position, you tend to look beyond the team names and think in terms of "home team" versus "away team".

It is a pleasure to be behind the plate in a well-pitched ball game, and those were some of best pitching performances I've seen for awhile. To say that Sarah was "very tough" is an understatement!

Congratulations to the Patriots and best of luck to all the teams in the coming season.
