Those that were at the NFCA meeting last month can elaborate more but the major team coaches (D1) in softball are trying to reign in the process - showcase wise and the recruiting window. Not sure if they have the overall votes to do so, but many might argue that the schools are an active participant in this recruiting explosion. The rationale used - they are there so I have to be there - is lame in my opinion. I spoke to Lacy Lee Baker from the NFCA last week about a number of issues being discussed in NJ. She was very straight forward and actually the details of this exact issue is part of the minutes from the NFCA meeting listed on their website. In essence, and specifically, Ms Baker stated that the proposed rule changes are being brought by the schools essentially to control themselves. Sad - but true. We are all a part of it - and as the article stated - it is changing year by year. Should be interesting.
