Yes, per Article 106.P.03:

Player Release is for a player that has participated on a team in championship play. They may be released from a team after participating in Championship Play, but it shall be prior to the State / Metro Association roster change deadline and shall have written approval from the Coach and Player / Parent Guardian ( if under age 18 ). For Junior Olympic Players, if the Manager / Coach and Parent / Guardian are one and the same, there needs to be an additional Manager / Coach signature. For Adult Players if the Manager / Coach and the Player are one and the same, there needs to be an additional Manager / Coach signature. This Player Release Form must be approved via signature by the State / Metro Association Commissioner or his / her designee.

Sad to see errogant all about themselves people not release a player. "A coach" is not a word I'd use for this sort of situation...a coach would move on for his/her example is still guiding youth. If a family wants to move on...good luck to them and be glad for them. To be called names for their family choice is a measure of that persons IQ and true passion to "own" something that isn't possible to own...another players future. SMH... And vurping...

If you are referring to the situation at the ASA States this past weekend, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good argument. When the Coach was informed, on June 13[SUP]th[/SUP], that the Player had already accepted an offer from another team, he was also told that a Coach from the new team had already contacted the ASA Commissioner and the release ‘was a done deal’. He was obviously mistaken, because Coach received a text message (which I read) this past Saturday morning, during the State Tournament, asking for the release of the Player. Coach was subsequently asked by the new coach to sign the release. Coach informed the new coach that he was going to speak with the biological Father, who was returning from vacation with the Player, to make sure that everyone was on the same page, because once a Player is released, they cannot return to the Team in Championship Play. The Player would not even be available to play until Sunday morning. Coach spoke with the Father and approached the TD early Sunday morning (prior to the new team’s 1[SUP]st[/SUP] game) for the purpose of releasing this Player. All parties were informed, BY THE TD, that since the release was not initiated before the start of the Tournament (Friday), the Player would not be eligible to play for the new team in this particular tournament.
Incidentally, despite the ruling, the Player played both games that she was available to play anyway, including their final game against the Coach you live to disparage. Seriously dude, your obsession with this Man is a bit creepy.

... thanks for quoting me. In my mind I feel important now.

As far as the ASA States thingy, yeah, that was unfortunate to watch. Sad really for all parties. Glad that it didn't occur within the Static organization. Been the best Static year ever not dealing with those endless types of issues from my POV. LMAO about the obsessed comment. I obsess over my wife, kids, managing a healthy life without drama, and staying active. Surely not over some person you call the Man. Best of luck to ya' QCDad.

OMG, you are talking about drama......Do you really want to go there? Still taking credit for something you had nothing to do with starting huh? Funny, your name is nowhere on this cincysoftball post announcing the new Organization...

So if my dd's team was in one championship game and her team was runner-up, she has to be released? But if they never played in that one championship game, she doesn't have to be released? Am I understanding this correctly?

I have a question. Is there any difference between a ASA release and a NSA release?

Yes, ASA and NSA are 2 entirely different organizations, and if you have been rostered on both you will need to be released from both to play in qualifying tournaments on the new team.

If you daughter signed a roster to play in an ASA qualifying event then she MUST be released by her old team before she is eligible to play in another qualifying event with another team. It does not matter that the team did not qualify in the event in question...just being on the roster for the event is all it takes. Please note that you MUST get the release before the start of the event or the player will not be allowed to play in the event "legally". The old coaches hands are tied even if he wants to allow her to play once the event has started!!!

Thought I would throw this out there: What if the team is done for the year & NOT playing anymore? Can the DD play in fall tourneys for a different team?
Thanks

The applicable deadline is the roster change deadline for the association championship where the team is registered. The State tournament's deadline was only applicable for Ohio ASA teams. Dayton and Cincy teams are governed by their metro's deadline.

Good news: A release is not needed from a team that has concluded championship play - players are free to be picked up by a team according to the Pick-up Player rules in Article 503.

Bad news: A release after the deadline does not make a player available to play for another team in championship play. They're stuck until the previous team concludes championship play, including nationals.

what if the team isn't going to Nationals... then is it date driven regardless of intentions or schedule?

Which team - previous or new?

Getting an ASA Release from a team before it concludes championship play is date driven. Players on a team that concludes championship play before nationals are available to be picked up according to Article 503. The eligibility of pick-up players in an association's or a regional qualifier are subject to the rules of that organization.

Without quoting all the relevant text from the ASA Code, I will say that team managers/coaches have responsibilities under the ASA Code to monitor whether the players who participate for them in championship play are eligible. If it is indeed true that the player played for another team without a release and after the TD informed the coach of the ruling . . . wow. For the player's sake and the sake of the new team, I hope no one makes an issue of this with ASA officials in OKC.
