Curious if the other age divisions are playing by these new "State Rules" from the State Director, for each of the other divisions & everyone's thoughts???

First off, the other coach & I both handed in lineup card for our first pool play games batting 10 & 11 respectively (which according to USA rules now, I understood to be allowed). We were told that pool games were to follow Championship rules & you could only bat 9.

Then when Bracket Play began, we were told & I heard it confirmed on the cell phone that ALL Bracket games would be "NO Time Limit". I'm glad there is not a lot of teams & wonder how the other ages are doing with more teams involved. I have been to ASA/USA Nationals & there was time limits on early bracket games. I think 7 inning games are awesome, but could make for a long day tomorrow...…..

On a side note - had an Umpire crew call one of my batters out on a caught strike 2 foul tip. This was a new one.....lol I just love how some are so ready to be so sure of not actual rules & the fact we that you would have to pay $100 to have the correct call made...……..

Personal pet peeve: Charging a huge fee to file a protest. The rule in the rule book doesn't say anything about a fee. If your tournament is charging a fee, then that's something they came up with on their own.

A protest is the only means available to a team to correct an incorrect rule interpretation. Why should you have to pay extra to have that done?

The fear is that if a fee isn't charged there will be a massive number of protests. That could disrupt the tournament schedule. But if the protest is ungrounded, then it would be dismissed and there would be a minimum delay. And, the coach will learn something, which should help to reduce disputes in the future.

If the protest is valid, then you are righting a wrong and doing the team a great service, which is as it should be. Getting it right should be your ultimate goal. And, if the protest is valid, then the umpire will learn something! That should help to make better calls in the future.

I don't have any idea why you had so many odd rule deviations from USA rules, or why you had an umpire make a bad rule interpretation.

I worked the 18U USA states this weekend and we used straight USA rules throughout- except for the time limits. They used 1:40, finish the inning, instead of 1:40 and play one more inning. Why, I don't know. That's what we were told to do.

Every game I worked played a full 7 innings within the time limit, some with as much as 30 minutes left over.

I personally love the. 1:40 time limit. Real softball. We played 7 games this weekend at 18u States and all where 7 innings unless a run rule. We were allowed to roster bat during pool play but did follow straight ASA line up rules in bracket play

What possible reason could they have for not allowing roster bat in pool play?
