The Buckeye Charge 12U 06 will be having the first tryout in the Akron area at Jedd Park, August 11th 10:30 AM. Travel softball is not a recreational sport, nor is it an individual sport. Girls who are proud of themselves and genuinely care about team-mates and support them, are the type of girls we want.

** Please arrive 30 minutes prior to tryouts for warm-ups **

** Bring all gear and wear softball attire **

** Please bring a $10 CASH fee due at time of tryout **

Jedd Park is located at:
2275 Pickle Rd
Akron OH 44312

Packrat, I asked the same question in the 11u Buckeye Charge tryout post and that coach said it was to make certain that only “ serious “ players who want to make a “ commitment “ show up to the tryout....if the player does make the team the 10 Dollars goes toward team fees..as for where the 10 Dollars goes for those who do not there was no definitive reply

The 10.00 fee will go towards any team fees if the player trying out makes the team. With that being said we are a non profit organization that is a little different from others. Each player will have an option to do community service hours in which our sponsors will pay which will come off of there team fees. Last year our players made up to 400.00 per player earning 10.00 per hr.

So what you are saying is, the sponsors are those players who don't make the cut, is that correct? Therefore, players who tryout are subsidizing the cost of fees for those who do.

Sooooo, if they don't make the team..... Do they get their money back? And, does that mean you will not be playing in that many tournaments due to the fact that the girls that do make it will apparently have time for community service? Not trying to be rude. Just extremely curious considering this is the first I have heard about this. The community service is a good way to get them involved, but what type of community service will they be providing?

We donated time in the food banks, tadmor temple haunted house, horse camp with kids with disabilities, one of a kind pets. Our program head has worked hard to acquire corporate sponsors that donated for our player to help them to earn the funds so parents can save. This also give more opportunities to more players to be able to play travel ball.

Also all of our community service was completed by January 1. We played in 9 tournaments throughout this season. We also played in 2 indoor leagues. We practice throughout the winter months in a 20,000 square foot facility.

It is safe to say that this team will have many of its players returning next year as they were an established team this past year. If they get 20-25 or even more kids to come tryout and they are only looking to add 1,2 or 3 kids, then they will make a little chunk of change to go towards their team funds. Meanwhile these kids who might actually think they have a chance to make a team are being used to get the money even if it is a small amount.
Pretty disingenuous if you ask me.

Yes, please don't get me wrong. I love the idea of community service. I was just curious. That sounds like a good idea.
