Who calls the pitches, because I notice the pitcher for Darby against Grove City that she was waving off most the pitches called.

Yeah Pouncer she must be calling horrible ones since they are 11-3 ..... It's a communication trust thing that the battery must have between eachother and it's working pretty well especially after calling a 1 hitter and no hitter the week before....

The are so many variables in that question it is hard to answer. ?The primary rule is that a pitcher should never throw a pitch that they do not believe in. ? Every pitcher should have the freedom to shake off a pitch they don't like. ?When they don't ?there is a tendancy to not get great results. ?A team with an inexperinced battery may rely on a coach to call the game pitch by pitch where as an experienced battery should call there own game. ? This doesn't mean that a coach should not have input the coach may want a special play in certain situations, ?but when players have been to pitching coaches and played in hundreds of games a coach better know what they are doing to override that type of experience. ? In hs particulary the pitcher probably knows the other teams lineup better than the coaches do, ?they play together and against one another in the summer. ? The pitcher and catcher from Darby may have just been going through the available pitches until the pitcher got one she wanted. ?

Timac, He's just some ignorant one just trying to get a rise....

She is more than capable of handling the games and the coaching staff is the ones with the final trust in them. Let's see games she's called over the years, her battery mates have been game MVPS at QDSN and QDSS 4 times, her pitcher in EUROPE was MVP of the Tournament against some world class players and she is something like 20-6 in HS calling them over two years so yeah I guess she has no clue.... Is there things she's working on? Everyday, she still is only 16 and learning, but you will not find many who work as hard at studying the game to better themselves....

At Millersport the coaches calls 75% of the pitches. We have 2 first year catchers. One is a senior and one is a sophomore. Our starting pitcher is a freshman. That being said, they have the latitude to call off a pitch. We will discuss why they called off a pitch in between innings.

Pouncer1 - The catcher for Darby calls the pitches for the Styingrays. I believe that both of the pitchers this fall in 4 tournaments had ERA's under 1.0

Hilliarddad3 - Care to share what the signs are ::)

I must have missed something. ?I did not read the first post as a slam to the pitcher but a question regarding the way hs teams operate in general. ?Hilliarddad3 if you are implying that I am trying to get a rise you are wrong. ?I simply expressed my belief that a pitcher and catcher should have and in fact must have input into pitch calls if a team is going to be succesful, ?especially as you progress in the state tournament where the teams get better game by game. ?I don't know who the pitcher is or where Darby is for that matter and would never comment specifically on her ability to call pitches even if I did. ?

timac,

pouncer1 catches for the Darby pitcher in the summer. Hilliarddad3's DD is the current catcher at Darby. This is not the first time that pouncer has attempted to start something that just isn't there.

CCD---- I have a one digit signal sign not for you, but I don't care to elaborate that the sign would be banned from this board...

LOL... our pitchers only have a fastball and a change up. There just isn't much to shake off this year.
