To answer the original question: Yes - if the equipment fits....

Build has little to do with it. Our catcher last year was as skinny as they come, and she caught 5 games in one day, and 8 over 3 days. Her heart, skill level, and conditioning made it possible. I would in fact be shocked if a bigger girl could hold up as well.

i'm a bigger girl, built but not huge, and i have had to catch alot of games in one day and have held up fine...what i'm trying to say is, bigger girls can handle it just as well as small girls.

DD is very skinny .. 80lbs and around 5' to 5'2" tall. Likely 0% body fat. However, I have to disagree that small & skinny = lack of endurance. I think it is just the opposite .. the heavy girls can't handle the heat, the skinny girls can play all day. I do agree that if there were contact at the plate she could get hurt, but so could any girl really. More motivation to make the tag correctly .. and all part of the job. Again .. I am likely defensive on this matter .. please continue to keep the opinions coming. THANKS

I tend to agree here. I have two DDs who play and the older one who just turned 14 (and who can get blown away by a strong wind) gave catching a try and fell in love with it. She's been catching now for three years and studies every part of the position. She;s developed into a pretty nice plate tender.

She works hard and loves it. I'm happy because she can do the catching for her sister (a pitcher) instead of good old dad! :p

I forget who the team was we played a few weeks back, but their catcher was a smalled framed girl and she did a really nice job. She had me fooled, at first look I thought she wasn't going to be as good as I would think. In my opinion size does not matter, I talking about catching!! My opinion changed when I seen what a great job she did, I can not remember the team; I am getting "Sometimers".

I used my skinny-light weight centerfielder/slapper as a catcher last year when we had issues with catchers throwing girls out.She is offensive minded, has a good glove and some experience as a pitcher and has a great arm.Offensive minded,so helps her being behind the plate.Knows how to read runners. Not a great blocker, but with a great pitcher, she excelled.Having a great pitcher and an offensive minded catcher beats size.Having a great pitcher makes it look like she's the best catcher.Teach her to block,I'd take her over a girl that only catches.

Team USA has one of each. One big (but still quick by most standards) catcher and one smaller thinner and unbelievably quick catcher.
