Hello
My name is Mike Libecap I am the Doom gold coach this year and I will be coaching the team again next fall. ALL of my girls are seniors except one and they will be playing college ball next year, which means I will be looking for several 18u "A" level players that plan to play in college. I was blessed with a great group of very smart girls that had awesome ACT scores and are all going to college where they chose. There is a school and a place for everyone.

To get one thing straight I AM NOT looking for girls this year and am not trying to "STEAL" players. I am wanting to recruit the best girls and have another year where all of my girls make it to the next level. So the reason for this post is to ask any girl that has that ability/drive to contact me early in hopes I can see them play this summer. I will recruit 16u and 18u girls for this team.

If any parents or players have any questions PLEASE contact me

Mike - First congratulations to your DD going to NKU next fall; very cool and I am sure you are very proud. Please let us know how the plans for 2017 season pan out. In about 2 more seasons, I will be in the same quandary/position as I plan to continue to coach after my DD leaves for college. I may want to pick your brain on what worked and what didn't. Good Luck!!!

Mike,
I love this new NKU coach. My daughter and a few of her teammates attended her camp in the fall. High intensity and efficiency. I've conversed with her a few times about various topics. If they are able to keep her, that program is on the rise-great for this region.

First off thank you. As far as what works and what doesn't, this is my opinion.

PLEASE keep in mind this is my OPINION

First you have to let the girls and parents know your expectations and they will need pushed. Every girl and family SAY they want to play at the next level but don't really understand what it takes to get there. It is our job as coaches to explain the process. They have to understand how important that grades are. Unless you are a pitcher that throws 65+ and never miss your spots there are very few FULL athletic rides. I have always preached "Take the ACT as many times as possible" and there are several programs that help with understanding the test and getting a higher score. I have always thought there is a school for every kid, I just need to help them find the right fit. Yes, I believe it is my job to put in several hours researching schools and programs to help with suggestions, but my girls are expected to be doing their part.

Second is marketing anyone that has been lucky enough to get most of their girls recruited will tell you it takes a ton of marketing. By that I mean of course the girls sending videos, emails, profiles and calling the coaches but here is the ONE thing in my opinion that not everyone believes and that is the have to play for the best organization possible. If your daughter is the best one on the team it's time to find a new team. My daughter started playing on a team that was very good but it was for a pretty much unknown organization because they were not known for getting girls to the next level. Several of those girls are on my team now and all are going on to the next level.

Along with marketing is the social media. Parents and coaches need to be involved in raising these girls. They have to understand any picture posted on snap chat, instagram ,Facebook or whatever could be out there for every possible school and coach to see.

Everyone knows the girls have to be at camps, clinics, taking hitting and pitching lessons but remember sometimes it's the small things that will set a girl apart.

And above all else- ENJOY THE RIDE- Let the girls live their dream , not their parents or coaches. I couldn't tell you how many dollars I've spent but I can remember every awesome play, the girls laughing and having fun and the feeling I have gotten every time I had that awesome conversation when a girl tells me she has committed.

The NKU Coach is awesome. She is very well known and respected in the softball community. My daughter was recruited by a couple other schools and when we see the other coaches and start talking about NKU every one of them has told her she is going to love Coach Gleason. Not one negative comment.

We were also at the fall camp and you are right it was awesome. She didn't even have all of her assistants hired yet but you wouldn't have known by the way she pitched batting practice ALL day and stayed so positive.

I am looking forward to watching her groom my daughter into a better ball player and person!!!!!!!!!

Mike - I should have clarified my question better. Like you I will be "starting over" in 2 years. We have had a great deal of success at getting our girls looks and offers from all levels of colleges (4 have already committed, 6 more have offers on the table). I am trying to decide where I will "re-start". I know I don't want to do 10u or 12u ball; I think the older ages are a better investment of my time and talents where I can apply what I have learned "in the process". We have 7 teams this year in our organization and I will need to determine where and how I can best plug in.

Was impressed by Coach Gleasons assistant in the hitting cages at the outlaws clinic in Feb. didn't get to really have much interaction with Coach Gleason, but heard good things.

Gotcha!
I understand EXACTLY what you're saying now. I have had that same conversation with our organization leader. What we came up with was next year I will stay at 18u Gold, just because that fits the organization needs. I hope after that that I can go back to the 14u or 15u level just because I feel that is where I can teach the girls ball and get them started in the recruiting process in hopes of building a true gold team with every girl getting committed before her senior year. I do agree with you going back to the 10 or 12u may be to far to best use the contacts you have made over the years.

I've had several people contact me and one of the first things they say is " I don't want her current coach to find out" I assure everyone that I am not going to cause any issues or let any ones coaches know we have talked. My purpose for posting this so early is to have a chance to see the girls play and how they handle things when they don't know any one is there. I want a true Gold team with no drama and girls working to get to the next level.
Once again my team is full for this year and I am not looking to steal players for this year.
Please contact me with any questions

We got off to a great start at the metro. We gave up 2 runs in the first 4 games. Sunday we had 3 girls out for graduation which left us with no subs and that is a big tournament for that. On top of that we had a pitcher hurt her elbow. So now we could use some pitching help.

After getting the team together and seeing exactly how we look, I would also like to add a another FAST outfielder.

If this sounds like a good fit
Please give me a call

Another good weekend with a national qualifier win going 5-1. The loss was in pool play. We are now 25-7 and have played a great schedule. Looking forward to Stingrays and seeing the girls that have already contacted me. If you're serious about playing at the next level make sure to contact me.
