Coaches - You are a JOKE!

?Hockeybuckeye,
Why are you assuming it was punishment. Were you in this teams dugout. 20 minutes of running or jogging is not gonna hurt a teenager unless she needs running and jogging. ;) All parents are not gonna agree with every decision a coach makes. I'm still looking for that coach I aree with 100% of the time. Relax let the kids play! The best conditioned teams have the best chance to win on sundays.

Well rfgirl,
As a former athlete I'm quite familiar with what is physical conditioning and have more than average experience with it. As a parent I know what is punishment and open anger and frustration takes no special training to reconize. Besides the coach makes it no secret to the team on her reasons for the paces she puts them through. Why would you still question what has already been clearly explained throughout this thread? I rarely offer opinion only on a subject I am witness to firsthand, only facts that I have verified and yes I am privy to what is said in the dugout.

I am suprised the coach still has a job. The nerve of him/her making kids run after a game. For 20 mins!!!! That is insane, these kids need to get home and sit in front of the computer, this coach is taking away from their Myspace/Facebook time, that is just plain BS. Its also BS that such a thing might actually bond the team together, but I am sure the coach is just an evil evil person, and making the kids run out of pure hate. I am positive he/she is not doing it for any reason other then pure hatred for his/her players. I am also sure he/she had nothing better to do then to make the kids run, I mean he/she is making what like 1500 a year to coach them? With gas prices that is like what -$5.00 a hour, he/she is probably just milking it just trying to put themselves in a bigger financial hole I bet. I think he/she should be fired, never allowed to coach again, possibly inprisioned.

That was an Uber-riffic post Uber. ?I think we have a new prefix to go with. My daughter had a Uber-good time at prom last night,...and this morning.
In our pre-game warm ups we hit many balls to the outfielders. We set a coach on a bucket as a simulated cut-off. If they don't hit the cut-off it costs them 5 push ups as a group for each miss. The throwing has tightened up considerably. I can hear Tweety Bird calling us "Baaaad Coaches", because they'll never have to do a push up in a game. ?::)

True Story-

Last year we had a girl....who is still with our program this year....who inevitably when she struck out would come into the dugout and slam the helmet down and then the bat was next. We cautioned her that this behavior was unacceptable. Her Father told us it had been a problem for as long as he could remember.....anyway long story short.....we had a double header going on and the first game had just started and lo and behold strike out.....helmet slammed and then the bat.....well........we asked her if she really wanted to be on our team to which she replied of course I do.......we then told her that to enforce our desire that she not display the type of sportsmanship she was to run the outside of the fence pole to pole until our game was over......game over she was standing there dripping sweat and the first thing out of her mouth was coach I am sorry and I really want to be a part of our team......guess what.....never another helmet or bat thrown the rest of the year.....her Dad still laughs about it and says behavior modified and all is good......he then said he was thinking pole to poles might be in order to get the grades up.......it works when needed. But dang pole to pole for an entire grading period would be tough!

I guess people can read the same posts and see things in a totally different light. I read all the posts and believe that most people agree with ?running athletes whether it be for punishment or conditioning.

Also, ?I don't think it wise or productive to the team to complain everytime you disagree with the coach. ?Sometimes you've got to have patience.

Nothing wrong with running a competative team, they will figure out why they are running after about 5 minutes and 10 munutes will take time away from getting to the cell phone and the boys baseball game and that will piss them off.

A coach can manage his players with running, GIVE EFFORT and you won't run.

The HS coaching job can be applied for by anyone, politics might prevent the hiring but if you are a great coach in the stands, people will back you so put aside the "I don't have time ritual" and apply if not happy with a coaching style.

Hey rfgirl,
This is a situation where you should defer to your elder's experience. I know hockey's team quite well and his observations have been 100% correct and that team's coach does qualify as a joke. Did you know that nearly every coach in that conference does not respects her or believes she knows what she is doing? It's pretty bad when they tell their teams to get ready for an easy win over Hockey's school team. Knowing what is wise comes with age and experience, before you critique, what are your qualifications?

Wow, Slidehome,

I didn't question HB's knowledge or qualifications as you put it. ?This thread seems to have gone on two tangents. ?One is whether running for punishment is helpful. ?I think running for whatever reason is good. ?The other topic is whether your coach is acceptable. ?IMHO this is not the place to discuss specific coaches. ?As for my personal qualifications, I have been involved with ball as a player or coach for 40 years.

Yes threads do seem to diverge off course sometimes rfgirl, but it has been accepted by OFC moderators that discussing a coach is permitted as long as no specific reference is made to the team or school that could identify the coach. Also I don't see how voicing an opinion on OFC is unproductive to the team? I support my DD's team 100% but that does not require me to support a bad coach. Is every negative comment on OFC unproductive to that person's team or are we simply doing what OFC is here for on open forum? It's much better to vent on OFC and get it out of your system than to let it show at the ballfield.
